My old 3ds xl running Luma3ds v9.1-4b341e03 on firmware version 11.9.0-42E gets stuck on the Internet Browser screen (and stays there until I force reboot the 3ds) when attempting to access the Internet Browser. Is there any way to help fix this? It would be nice to surf the internet as well, which is something I currently cannot do. Internet connections work nice, so does 3ds internet gameplay. The one thing that doesn't work is the actual Internet Browser.
(i think I might have posted this in the wrong section, please forgive me for this)

does it freeze instantly or after a few seconds? can you clear out cache?
try doing a clean format.

try the ff too:
backup nand
ctrtransfer a 10.5 image (and try the browser)
then update back to 11.9

i'm scared doing that, as I only managed to CFW my 3ds a few days ago, and that seems like a somewhat dangerous action. Oh and the internet browser worked before following the 3ds.hacks.guide.

Maybe this will help:
https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-fix-broken-3ds-browser.536249/

Also note that the browser is almost completely useless. Even the N3DS browser is pretty much garbage; the old one works pretty with pretty much nothing.

CTRTransfer is a bit extreme for the beginning. Also formatting makes all installed games/saves unusable.

I have deleted the title from FBI then System Updated the 3ds. As I am typing this, the 3ds is on the Internet Browser screen and will likely stay there. I'm starting to think Luma3ds is somehow interfering with the Internet Browser.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Here we go again. I'm not exactly sure if this is the right place to put this but this problem is rather weird. Its different from the other one I posted about. Different 3DS, different problem.

I have a o3DS XL (USA) with Luma CFW and latest FW. The most random of problems popped up. When I try to go into internet browser or Miiverse, it stays on the screen forever (the "internet browser" screen). What sucks is that the last time I used the browser was before I downloaded CFW. I didnt drop it or anything since then, I checked all the buttons and components and they work perfectly.

The thing is, I tried taking the SD card out and suddenly it works again. So it has to be something on the SD card is making it malfunction right? But what is it? All I've downloaded is CIAs and Themes...

Hmmm... it seems to work when i remove the SD card... but I want it to work WITH the sd card. The only workaround I have found is:

1) Boot the 3ds without the SD card inserted
2) Start the Internet Browser and wait for it to load
3) Insert the SD card
4) GO back to the HOME menu
5) THe Internet Browser will continue to work (until you restart your 3ds, duh...)
... or maybe, MAYBE, if you start another app :( (means the Internet Browser bricks again if you start another app then go back to it)

Hhmm. With SD failure and without success. The Browser save data is on the NAND not the SD, so…???
  1. To check if the problem occurs without Luma refer to the safety test of the uninstall section on the guide. Actually uninstalling CFW is a really bad idea and you would lose all tools for further troubleshooting! The safety test part will allow you (if nothing vital has been changed) to load the Home Menu without CFW. This way you can check if the problem is actually caused by Luma (I doubt it but it's worth a try).
  2. FarisMarie in the thread you linked had success with another SD. Maybe it was bad Home Menu extdata. (If you do not want to delete your Home Menu extdata, just rename the folder given on the guide - as good as deleting and can be undone if fresh Home Menu extdata does not solve the problem)
  3. If not already done, check your SD for defects and/or fake:
    • Copy all your data from the SD to a computer. Reformat the SD to FAT32, 32kb cluster size, if bigger than 32GB and using Windows with guiformat.
    • Check your SD: Windows, Linux, OS X.
      • If you get any errors replace the SD.
      • If you get no errors copy your files back on the SD.

I tried the Safety test, it worked (the Internet Browser loads). So, what do you think happened?
Also tried "moving" the extdata folder over to my PC to see if that fixes the issue - no.

No idea - sorry. If this is reproducible (with Luma fail, without working browser) this is indeed strange.

Maybe the great @TurdPooCharger knows more.

@IncognitoMaster, do you have another SD card, preferably something small like 4 GB in size? With that substitute card, you'll want to test how your 3DS reacts using a nearly empty setup.
  1. Ensure the SD card's write protection switch is not set to the LOCK position. See this.
  2. Copy everything off that SD card onto a computer.
  3. Reformat the card in FAT32 + 32 KB cluster size using Windows File Explorer or guiformat.
  4. Full Write + Verify the empty card with H2testw. Don't skip this step.
  5. If the card passes, delete the *.h2w test files -or- replace the card & go back to step 1 if your current card has failed.
  6. Download the latest Luma3DS. Extract and put the boot.firm on the root of the card. Add nothing else.
  7. Reinsert the card into the 3DS, turn on the system, and hold (SELECT) to access Luma3DS v9.1 configuration.
    • Use these exact settings and check that the bottom screen states Booted from SD via B9S.
  8. Press (START), continue to HOME Menu and determine if the Internet Browser still acts up.

@IncognitoMaster You just have the Luma3DS with plugin loader version installed (could be the one that comes with CTGP). If you really want to use the Internet Browser, launch the luma updater app and update to latest stable release.

There is a bug present in the plugin loader version that prevents some apps from running due to an out of memory error. There is a fix being worked on, but it will have to wait.

@IncognitoMaster If you really want to

My quote in bold clearly shows how it is not a major problem, therefore I don't really want to. As I said, I just wanted to find out. I hope that cleared the misunderstanding.

Could also simply be the applets freeze bug (usually seen on Friends List) - if that's the case just leave it on the "internet browser" screen, it should fix itself in less than 2 hours (usually in about 30 minutes)

I did play SSB once but I didn't check out the Internet Browser.
On O3DS you can't use the browser (or Miiverse) in the high memory modes, like SSB4's

Oof, deleting the browser didn't work. Thankfully I have luma 9.1 and 10 sideloaded with each other so I can switch my version at will, and that works just fine. Thanks for the help!!
