Is there an actual soft mod for the switch because I don't wanna screw up my switch.
There is PegaSwitch but it only publicly works up to firmware 3.0 and only gives you access to homebrew. Not to mention that nobody uses it since the RCM exploit, Fusee Gelee, is superior both in terms of access (CFW and all) and setup (5-10 minutes I would say). Lastly, the chances of screwing up your Switch is low with Fusee Gelee.

I personally don't use or really recommend Goldleaf as it has been hit or miss with a lot of people. What I found does work is the original Tinfoil by Adubbz. For USB install, you have some options. One is with Python and Fluffy. There is another without Python known as Aluminum Foil. Both contain links to a build of Tinfoil to accompany them. I use Aluminum Foil so I don't have to mess around with Python but a lot of people report success with Fluffy as well.

Are you on 7.0.1? I have the Adubbz Tinfoil 0.2.1 on my 6.2.0 install right now and use that Tinfoil over USB and then the command line Python script usb_install_pc.py and would love to hear if it's just as reliable on 7.0.1 / AMS 0.8.6 as on my current 6.2.0 / AMS 0.8.1 setup. Especially with Yoshi releasing in less than two weeks.

While I am on 7.0.1, I haven't used CFW for a few months now (ever since 6.2 came out). But I personally have been using Tinfoil plus Aluminum Foil without issues and have heard similar stories from other users. At the very least, it works better than Goldleaf and Goldtree.

I get my jig kit in the mail tomorrow - I have a serialed hackable Switch (no account - never online - new) It's running it's original 4.1.0 OS. I will need to back up this NAND when I run my first bootloader. Then I will need to update offline with the hack software that allows "no burn fuse" - now can I again backup the NAND at 6.2.0 software I will be installing....or will this be a dirty OS backup??? *should I back it up anyway.... incase I lose RCM-Mode or something? Is 6.2.0 best Firmware to update to or has 7.x.x gotten any better in last few days. NOOB for sure here. Cracked into earlier consoles in the long past tho. Thanks

Also.... Is there an Install of the Official Nintendo NES Player available that doesn't need to be download from Nintendo? Hopefully available so I don't necessarily need the most recent update? It run on 6.2.0 or need 7.X.X *Talking about the one that yiou needed a subscription to run NES games downloaded from NES Website. ??? Not talking about an emulator. Thanks again.

You don't need to make a second NAND backup when you update to 6.2, especially if you are doing it without burning fuses. Not burning the fuses means you can return to your original firmware, 4.1, at any time so your first NAND backup would still be useful in case you do get bricked (which is highly unlikely 99% of the time). But if you're paranoid, you can dump the NAND a second time on 6.2. Bear in mind that it will be slightly dirty since you can only update to 6.2 with homebrew and you will have to ensure it doesn't get mixed up with your first NAND dump.

And yes, there is a copy of the NES app on the Interwebs.

I installed
Captain Toad Treasure Tracker Special Episode v1 2 0 DLC
Captain Toad Treasure Tracker Update v1 2 0

On my switch with 5.1.0 and sxos 2.5.3

I used tinfoil first, chose ignore firmware requirement and it wouldn't install. So then I used sx installer, it installed them, but now there is a blank tile with a loading symbol. I had the full game installed and 100% game completed before these 2 new patches. What must I do to fix this and get it to run?

Thanks for all your help. What do they call this "stand alone" Nintendo NES APP - that allows NES Roms to be played on the Switch *Not needing to initually be downloaded from the eStore - since I will never be able to go to that store without a FULL legal update (to get the player). *Pretty sure 7.x.x is not all setup for full user mods yet. When I try to search all I get is the usual ROM download sites or information....links to emulators *don't need that with Nintendos near perfet EMU in the wild.

Noob question - what’s the title keys for game and why do we need it for?
Titlekeys are needed for decrypting and subsequently playing games dumped/downloaded from Nintendo's eShop. Usually, games are dumped with their titlekeys so they don't need to be externally provided. The exception to this are preloads which are dumped with the .NSX format to prevent people from installing it early (because it will fail to launch on account of lacking the titlekey) as well as differentiate from a dump with the titlekey traditionally known as .NSP files.

Hello, i saw a video that its possible to play n64 at reasonable performance using Retroarch nsp.

However on the official Retroarch site i was only able to find the NRO file, and from what i read the nro format is not capable of running N64 games.

My question is where can i find the Retroarch NSP? i looked everywhere with no success.

thanks in advance!

Retroarch stopped distributing the .NSP file because of banning memes. Either use a forwarder by following this tutorial, make your own forwarder with this tutorial, or convert the homebrew app to a .NSP file with nro2nsp

No CFW can help with this and a NAND backup won't help since its already bricked. Try following this tutorial to rebuild part of the NAND. If you don't know what firmware is on the console, shoot for 6.1 since that is the highest the tool supports. The keys in step 6 can be obtained with Lockpick_RCM. And do a SYSTEM INITIALIZE during step 8.7.

Is there a way to transfer screenshots off the Switch without storing them in SD, shutting down the console, and copying them off the card? It seems the social media function doesn't work if you have Nintendo servers blocked

@Sicklyboy I am wanting to fully change the game and bend it to my will lol. I would like to eventually have the ability to add more characters, enemies, even have a completely different story if i wanted. I already have the ability to change the tilemaps in the US version, so I can basically make my own map and warp to it in game - so I'm pretty far into it!
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I really would like to make a hack that I would enjoy playing, and maybe other people would too. swapping to the EU version would also mean my US friends could not legally play it
  • TwoSpikedHands @ TwoSpikedHands:
I am definitely considering porting over some of the EU features without using the actual ROM itself, tbh that would probably be the best way to go about it... but i'm sad that the voice acting is so.... not good on the US version. May not be a way around that though

@TwoSpikedHands just switch, all the knowledge you learned still applies and most of the code and assets should be the same anyway

    and realistically they wouldn't

be able to play it legally anyway since they need a ROM and they probably don't have the means to dump it themselves

why the shit does the shitbox randomly insert newlines in my messages

@Karma177 that sd card is 100% faulty so yes, its a bad idea

  • Karma177 @ Karma177:
@The Real Jdbye it hasn't given me any error trying to write things on it so I don't really think it's faulty (pasted 40/50gb+ folders and no write errors)
