Hey guys. I want to know what can i do with a "Wii U" that has NO GAMEPAD in terms of modding.

1) I got a console with missing gamepad for pennies and i need to get it running.
2) With a linux appication i called DRC-SIM i was able to emulate the gamepad using linux. to complete the system settings and that kind of stuff.
3) My intention is to use the console WITHOUT the gamepad, without linux because i really don´t like it. I think a pro controller or wiimote is better
4) The use for it would be gamecube + virtual Wii + Wii U games that don´t require gamepad + Homebrew emulators

Things that i have:
- A working Wii U (only console)
- A wiimote + classic controller

Missing:
- Wii U Gamepad
- Wii U PRO controller.( I will buy one)

So i went ahead and modded the Wii U ...Using "haxchi", its perfectly modded now but WITHOUT cold boot haxchi ( for security reasons with kids on the house) But there is a problem. when you run Haxchi...it asks for a GAMEPAD connected.

So i went to linux and left the server on, used a wiimote to run haxchi... but there is a problem, it runs but goes to custom firmware. Pressing "A" on the wiimote does nothing.

(But if you have to press "A" on the PC in linux to go to Homebrew channel).

Is there a way to remove gamepad requirement to run haxchi?
My idea was to run haxchi with a wiimote. then it goes to custom firmware. then.... using the Homebrew Channel "Release RPX / Channel v2.1" i have the homebrew channel as a launcher, therefore i can use the wiimote to run it.

but then i got more problems....
for example i was using libretro Snes9x 2010, and the wiimote nor classic controller is not detected at all..you need the gamepad.
so for homebrew you also need a gamepad? Why it doesnt work with wiimote or classic controller?

what choices do i have to get it running without a gamepad as much as possible?
everything is made to have the gamepad :(

...yeah, you kind of do need the gamepad.

DRC is better than nothing.

I had an issue with a non-O.G. wiimote (1st edition Wiimote), where it would work in games, just not HB menu....I left it to rot.

I also noticed my gamepad had no function other than screenmirroring, so maybe you downloaded a different version/fork to get gamepad over wiimote control?

It's probably a really simple solution.

Hey guys. I want to know what can i do with a "Wii U" that has NO GAMEPAD in terms of modding.

1) For Wii & Gamecube games you will have no problems, just buy the Wii U pro controller to play all Gamecube games via nintendont, and don´t forget to get a Nunchuk for you´re wiimote (cause as you know, there are no many games for wii that only supports wiimote).

2) You already have haxchi and that´s a plus. However it´s true, u need the gamepad or DRC app ur using, or HID to VPAD but the process will be too much tedious to be done every time u turn on the console.

3) In my opinion, CBHC is a must have on a Wii U with haxchi and no gamepad, but i comprend ur situation... I believe u can´t program haxchi to be launched without the gamepad, simply because it emulates the nand in a particular NDS process. But check this out https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-launch-haxchi-and-simple-signature-hack-without-gamepad.459231/, maybe as they say u can modify the Haxchi DS title meta.xml to eliminate the gamepad requirement, but i don´t know. What i know is that modify that kind of files can sure end in a Brick.

4) Well, there are All gamecube and Wii games as you want without gamepad. For emulators i don´t really know, i think is a little tedious to do. Finally, Wii U games without gamepad requirement are few one´s but good games... Like super smash, Zelda series, Mario Kart, Injustice, Resident evil, Donkey Kong TF, New Super Mario, uhmmm, Need for Speed MW, Fast racing neo, (many indies), Bayonetta 1 & 2, Splinter Cell Blacklist, Batman, etc.

hey thanks for the link to have haxchi modified in order to run without gamepad. I will investigate that because i really need that.

So HID to VPAD is the wayt o go for homebrew emulators

Regarding the gamepad,...no... it is not worth it, it is bulky, it lasts very few hours, not confortable, and i like a pro controller much more.

You DO need the gamepad... or something like DRCSim... Somes games/apps will just not work without it (ex: YouTube...)

Most of the best games you do not need a gamepad
MarioS, zelda, donkeykong, mario kart don´t require gamepad
I do know that bayoneta you need the gamepad connected but only to boot the game , and later you can use the pro controller (but in that case i can fire the linux server and play with pro controller)

So there is not much i would miss because of not having one.
or what games Will require a gamepad else cannot be playeD?

Yes you are right, Baayonetta 1 requires to press a button of the gamepad before play without it. Bayonetta 2 doesn't. You will be unable to play: Fatal frame. Deus Ex. Tokyo mirage sessions FE. Star fox and Splatoon. Uhmm, Netflix, Mario Party 10. Rayman Legends. Kirby and the rainbow curse. Super mario maker. Pikmin 3. Xenoblade X. Paper mario color splash. Zombi U.
If find a Gamepad is easy for u, i will certainly recommend it too.

from all the games in that list, the only ones im interested are:

1) Bayoneta ( i can leave the linux server running to launch the game and play with pro controller, so im ok)
2) Starfox ( so in starfox gamepad is really needed always? i can't leave the drc-sim server running and play with a pro controller?)
3) Super mario maker .. sad but i understand
4) Xenoblade X, i heard the map is on the gamepad, but you can play with the pro controller, so if gamepad is used not much then i can use DRC-sim server in linux. and use the client a little bit from time to time.

Yep gamepad is very much needed for Starfox Zero. The TV shows a wide view of the game and the gamepad shows cockpit view and is used for precise aiming.many enemies are impossible to kill without using cockpit view.

Xenoblade X, the map on the gamepad is needed as the game is huge and you will easily get lost without it.

you could also try the drc sim android app this way it's maybe more comfortable (for games which dont require gamepad much) than usage via pc (also maybe linux bother you then less because all it does is running the drc-sim server).
btw I'm in the same situation as you, I've a wii u without gamepad (but original and third party wii stuff [and a third party wii u pro controller])

Hi. I'm trying to use the Android app and I get both audio and video to the phone, but buttons and inputs doesn't seem to register at all. Did you get this working?

Its been a while since I used the app (got another wiiu + gamepad really cheap), so I really cant remember.

Did you try connection your controller to the phone before you start the app (or if you did already maybe after you started it)?
As far as I remember you could assign buttons in the settings (e.g. btn1 = A). Does this work?

Last but not least, do the virtual buttons work? (if you dont use a seperate controller?)

ZeldaWW tells you how they did it in their post at the top of the screen.

I have the opposite problem. I have all of the Wii U's accessories but the system was stolen by the USPS. I don't feel that I will be buying a new system so I'd be willing to send you what I have. Just pay for shipping. Hit me up, if interested.

Done that, works great, I have used the .java file on my PC so that it allowed me to use the arrows from the keyboard. On the Android app the arrows are not present. Thank you

Without the gamepad, you cannot go in the system menu, so you cannot uninstall a game or remove a game that didn't uninstall correctly, so a gamepad is mandatory....Am I wrong?
