system-update-ps3-main-02-us-03nov14.png

Yes, you read right; the PlayStation 3 received a new firmware update. Version 4.83 is available to download for your PS3 systems at this time, offering more stability for your console. Full details are not known, in regards to what changes this makes to exploits or homebrew, so if you value keeping your system hacked, please do not update until more information is made available. The previous firmware, 4.82, was pushed late last year, on November 14, 2017, and the past three updates have purely been about increasing stability. If you enjoy incredibly stable PlayStation 3's, feel free to update.

Beginning October 11, 2018, we have started updating to update PS3® body functions. In this update, the system software version will be 4.83, and the following functions will be updated.

■ main function to be updated in version 4.83
  • In system software, stability of operation has been improved.

UPDATE: PS3exploit has been patched by the firmware and no longer works.

fucking finally. My PS3 was wobbly as hell, now it sits stable next to my TV.

EDIT: BEWARE! I installed this update and my PS3 is still wobbly as shit. This did not increase the stability of my PS3, I think Sony might need to look into this further.
This guy is a god for this

Why did they released updates for such an old console, just to patch exploits?

That would be if Nintendo released today v4.4 for the Wii with Letterbomb & TwilightHax permanently patched, as well implamenting a filter, if illegal copies of games have been detected, your Wii will be banned.

I'm still waiting for PS3 Phats* to start being sold cheaply at garage sales. But, bring on that sweet, sweet stability Sony.

* Or PS2s. It's sort of amazing to me how a working used PS2 is commonly sold on ebay for around the same price as used PS3.
Aren't there any flea markets or swap meets where you live? PS2's are a dime a dozen at my local swap meet.

Right and obviously the ps3 player key is compromised every time a CFW is released, so they get revoked quickly.
Apprently, not even. It appears that Sony has designed the PS3 around a constantly changing key: https://manuals.playstation.net/document/en/ps3/current/video/aacs.html

They supposedly revoke and replace the PS3's key every 12 to 18 months. Pretty strange. This appears to have been the case even pre-CFW, as I found a 2009 forum post complaining about it.

Only temporarily abandoned...

I will eventually upgrade the HDD so I can add more games to it, and I must also get an external HDD for my PS4 as well. I recently dug out my modded Wii after not touching it for two years, and I will eventually do the same here with my PS3 too.
You have a modded Wii? Does it have cfgloader? If it does, may I see the files on the SD card/USB? I’m trying to set mine up but currently having trouble.

Oh, I see. well, I don't watch bluray movies on my PS3 anyway, so that isn't really relevant to me.

I do, it'a a much better player than ps4 (the only other BR player I have). But I haven't had to update to play a disc in PS3 a couple of years, and I've watched releases as recent as Solo. I seem to recall having to update quite a few times in the past (can't remember specifics, just what a MFing hassle it was, especially one time when rebug was being so slow to issue a new version, I even wound up switching to another CFW for a while due to that)).

I hope this isn't just another yurip privacy message thing like Wii U's recent "update" that they just used as an excuse to sneak in some ap sheeit.
