Super Mario Party won't be playable in handheld mode

If you were hoping to play Super Mario Party on your Nintendo Switch while on the go, or with a Switch Pro Controller, then you might have to put those plans on hold. The game just got its official website, and it specifies that players won't be able to experience the game in handheld mode at all--only TV or tabletop. This is due to the fact that the minigames require motion controls from the Joy-Cons. This also rules out using the Joy-Con grip, as well. Super Mario Party will launch on October 5th.

This reminds me of people complaining about having to stand and wave arms around to play any shooter on Wii.
Ultimately justified both at the time and looking back today as there is not a lot to go back and have a look at from a gameplay or artistic sense?

This makes sense. You can't perform half of the functions required with the device in handheld - it is controlled by a single joy-con, afterall. It works as a console game docked, and it works undocked with the joy-con detached. I thought we knew this since E3? I can't see how this is a big deal...at all.

You don't have to stand and you don't have to wave arms around playing shooters on Wii. Doesn't matter how many shooters there were to look at.

Kind of misleading. I think a lot of people assumed no portable play at all from the title. Not sure how to fix it, other than saying ,it can still be played in tabletop mode, in the title.

That said, the game should still have handheld mode only mini games.

Oh well. No online and now this. Odds changed on it not being the thing to give the series a kick up the arse like some initially reckoned.
Well, there is at least an online mode. Not as big as we want it, but still.

I'm actually glad this is docked mode only because I only play my switch in docked mode since I have a family of six. Can't wait to get this.
Um... What? Why would you be glad? No one is forcing you to play games in handheld or tabletop mode.

Is it just not usable in handheld mode or is it like in the ad where they needed 2 switches?
Because in Germany its hard enough to find even one person that has a switch...(at least in my area)

I'm glad because they focused on making a proper party game meant to be played by more than 1 person on a TV. Now the only thing that concerns me is how much emphasis they put on the tabletop mode regarding multiple switches.

To me it wouldn't matter a lot, because each new Mario Party game is essentially the same as the previous one but with a few new games and maybe a gimmick or two.
We just have to wait until DS emulation is good enough to run Mario Party DS.
