Can't find an official source of the cart type 2. For some reason, it isn't documented in Switchbrew... I know that the second type cannot be read even with XCI dumper because of the partitions...

i think it's just because that some games like LA Noire need to download some files in the eshop to work because it's too big

A new type of card which SX can’t read/play, sadly. A few newer games are in this format. I hope Crash N Sane Trilogy, Lego Incredibles, Wolfenstein II aren’t in this format

It's a similar situation when Sky3DS came out. Nintendo brought out a new cart that Sky3DS (blue) can't read, but later they cracked it and made a revision (orange).

I think Nintendo engineers do hang around here.
