just to make sure are your start and select buttons working? also could you check how your sd card is formatted? (it's under properties on pc)

oh my b I thought if it wasn't formatted properly some programs would have trouble running instead of the whole system (I have much to learn)

Maybe try renaming to "start_safeb9sinstaller" then hold start turn on power and see what happens
?

ok I'll try that

it booted to the home menu.

If that doesn't work, rename it to arm9loaderhax.bin, then overwrite the one you have on the sd card root.

If that doesn't work I would try redownloading the files also make sure to eject your sd card before removal that can occasionally mess with files

home menu again, but I did see this " try using another sdcard how will that work?
Not sure. Tell me if the 3ds boots up without both boot.firm and arm9loaderhax.bin, or on an SD card with nothing at all. Also, if you can get into fbi, tell me if you have either of those files on the ctrnand.

you may laugh at me, but what is ctrnand? oh and I can never get into fbi because I am on 11.6. if the 11.6 ruins everything just tell me.

All luma versions beyond 6.6 require b9s in order to work, which requires a manual install. We aren't updating to get luma3ds really, we're updating to b9s for more features such as luma3ds.
7.0.5 doesn't.
just boots straight into the home menu
Either you don't have A9LH or your start/select buttons are broken, or Luma is being read from CTRNAND for some reason.
Are you sure you even have A9LH?
Edit: I guess you don't. So why did you think you had Luma 6.6 all this time if you've never been able to run FBI?

Ok I'll try and get a dsiWare game.

one question does it have to be eshop or gamecard

eShop, dsiware games are only on the eshop.

I wasn't counting the legacy version, it just makes things complicated.

7.0.5 is no more legacy than 6.6 is. It's the last version that supports other entrypoints than B9S so it's the best one to use for non-B9S users.
