Found my N2DS XL which I haven't used since 2022, and turns out Nintendo released a new system update while I was gone.

I have Luma3DS, a custom Home Menu UI, a custom keyboard UI, and custom badges. I made a sysNAND backup and I'm planning on updating Luma3DS as well as reinstalling a clean .cia of the Home Menu and the keyboard UI to prepare for the update.

After I do all these steps, will I be safe? Will my custom badges affect the system update? What else should I do? Will I be able to reinstall my custom home menu and keyboard UI after the update? My 3DS homebrew knowledge has rusted so I hope I'm not forgetting anything.

Most likely you can update to 11.17 without issues, since you most likely already have Luma3DS 10.2.1 (2020) or newer.

If you want to update Luma3DS and some other homebrew programs:

If the custom HOME Menu and keyboard cause issues, you can delete them and do an update from Safe Mode. Or use CTRTransfer (https://3ds.hacks.guide/ctrtransfer.html). You may want to figure out how to re-customize it after this.

@ihaveahax Thank you for your input ^_^

I decided to update Luma3DS to 13.3.3, install the clean Home Menu and keyboard (even tested out both of them), and then go to system settings to do the update. There was a black screen, and I was expecting it to go to the Home Menu pretty quickly but it stayed there for longer than usual so I powered it off.

And then, when I try to let it go to the Home Menu, it's still just a black screen. But thankfully I can still access GodMode9 and the Luma3DS config menu, and I made a sysNAND backup much earlier.

Regardless I'd like a fix for this. I get all nervous when I can't play my games.

EDIT: Found this. Will try it out.
