Just wondering if CFW/Homebrew could ever bring Resistance 2 back. I know that we can still play R2 coop mode via two player splitscreen, but the gameplay really demands three players minimum. You used to be able to play two player splitscreen online while the servers were up but they are dead now of course... but can homebrew enable LAN in place of online? Or if not then perhaps one day?

I don't know if enabling LAN is something that Homebrew can do. In the case of Resistance 2 though (a cult classic for me) I don't think much of the game was locked to the server side. You can still play all of the multiplayer content offline, so if it's possible to add LAN support or spoof PSN connection in some way then maybe it could work?

My dream would be to LAN two PS3s together and play 4 player coop again with my brother and friends (2 player + 2 player split, like you can still do with Halo etc).

It's possible. There's a patch for some DS/Wii games that allowed you to connect to another server when Nintendo shut those online games down.

Wow cool! But just to be clear though, this still isn't possible right now though? I mean, we're still just talking theoretically? It does sound promising anyway so hopefully there will be a proper method or guide available to do this in the future.

I believe the DS/Wii example used cheat codes to redirect the IP of the server the online mode should look for. I doubt a LAN mode will ever work, but you could in theory modify the game to look for a different server. Not sure what would need to be on the server, never played the game nor do I know the PSN structure all that well.

If possible, it would take some dedication.
