Good morning everyone!

First of all, here is the context : I use wiiflow on my vWii and so far everything works flawlessly. But...

I have a strange issue.. I backed my Disney Sing It Family Hits yesterday but the game is bigger than 4gb so I ended up with 2 files : Disney Sing It Family Hits [SDFE4Q].wbfs and Disney Sing It Family Hits [SDFE4Q].wbf1 .

When the game is on SD:\wbfs\Disney Sing It Family Hits [SDFE4Q]\*.* , wiiflow doesn't work anymore (at all). It tries to launch but it crashes and I go back to the Wii menu. I removed the game from my SD card and wiiflow works well again.

TLDR; vWii + wiiflow + wbfs splitted in 2 files = crash

Any ideas of what I might be doing wrong?

Thank you!

don't use d2x r53 !
don't follow bad softmod guides which tell users to install latest release of everything.
latest is not always better.

install d2x r52, it should fix issues when loading games from SD card.
Also, there might be another cause, but it's the first thing which comes to mind as it's known r53 doesn't work with SD card.

if you already have r52, then we will look at another solution. (could be the ISO, could be the device, or the settings)
I would recommend testing with another loader, but I don't know how good CFGLoader works on vWii (USBLoaderGX doesn't launch wii games from SD, so you can't test with it).
but, first, check your cIOS version :)

Thank you for the quick reply.

I followed the guide inside the "Wii U + VWii" zip found here : https://rikumax25.github.io/wiiusetup/

It made me install cIOS d2x-v10-beta52-vWii.

All my other backups work well except this one. Like I said, it's also my only game splitted in 2 files, this is why I'm suspicious about this in particular.

You can argue with @Cyan about some guide you followed or you can take his advice. Personally I'd listen to what he has to say and follow his suggestions.

Also, "splitted" isn't a word. Split is what you wanna say

I thought about r53 because I know Kirby doesn't work on SD with r53. (it triggers the AntiPiracy protection)

So, if you already have d2x r52, we can already tell the cIOS is not the problem.

so, it left us with either :
- wrong game (corrupted, bad dump, not correctly split/copied)
- wrong IOS. it could be the game is set to a bad/wrong slot. I know Wiiflow has a somewhat "automatic IOS Slot selection", so I don't know what really happens behind the scene when you launch that game. it depends which IOS base you have installed, and your settings.
- wrong settings. That's rare, but possible. Some games have protection against piracy, or against cheats, so based on the settings it could trigger the protection. But you'd get an error message, not a reboot.
- loader itself, though it's even rarer than wrong settings. all loaders should have the same compatibility.
- That game doesn't work on SD. I think some games just don't work on SD, and you need to put them on USB. I don't know if the split state is what make the game not work on SD, but there's no reason, the console doesn't care about how many cut/split there is. it can go up to few thousands parts. so, 2 parts is not the issue.

Edit:
I tried to read your guide inside the zip, and didn't find any guide, except a link to WiiU.guide website, which is not well seen here. telling users to do unnecessary things, not explaining why and the purpose.
a lot of users have issues after following it.

At least, the "wiiflow readme" included in the zip tells you that r53 is not recommended.
but both r52 AND r53 are in the zip, so you said you have r52 and I'll trust you. so, the problem is one of the possibilities I listed.

One good thing about the website you linked is that it rebuild the package on the fly on new releases, but can be a problem at the same time if new releases are too much different (though, vWii/wiiU hacking is at the end of its life now, so it shouldn't be a problem anymore)

@Kafluke : I didn't argue. I pointed out the guide I followed told me to install r52 exactly like Cyan recommended me to do. I probably used the wrongs words to say it. I'm not a native english speaker.

@Cyan :
wrong game (corrupted, bad dump, not correctly split/copied) : sounds highly probable, I'll try to do one more backup and see what happens
wrong IOS : all the other games work so.. can this really be the IOS?
loader itself / That game doesn't work on SD : I'll look around and find another loader. This time a USB loader. And that way I'll shoot 2 birds with 1 bullet :)

Yeah I was refering to the readme file. That's the guide I followed.

Thank you very much for the help. I'll let you know if it works.. If it doesn't.. I'll just give up. I have the original game anyways so it's no big deals.. I do the backup just because I expect my discs to stop working withing a few years...

can't you use USB instead of SD ?
wiiflow works with USB too, you know. wiiflow is a USBLoader, no need to find another one. try with this one first.

and you'll have more space to put your games. SD card is a little small compared to usb. but that's up to you and how much game you have to put on it.

When I mentioned the wrong IOS, I thought about the way wiiflow works.
if you followed the guide, it made you install 3 different cIOS.
all are r52, but based on 3 different official IOS.

in slot 249, you have a cIOS based on IOS56
in slot 250, based on 57
in slot 251, based on 58

Wiiflow might pick the slot automatically based on the game you launch. (each game request a specific IOS, and you have only 3 usable for backups).
if wiiflow pick the wrong one, for example slot251 but your SD card doesn't work with that cIOS, then the game can't be found and the console reboots.
what you can do is force the game to use slot249 or (even better for compatibility) slot250, instead of using the automatic selection.

I'm basing this info on the fact that a lot of musical games are using IOS58 by default (I don't know if sing it does), and wiiflow might pick the cIOS based on IOS58 for that game.
but cIOS based on 58 are not working very well with games. You need IOS57 for sing it. (but I think it doesn't work on SD anyway)

I tested the cfwb with Dolphin and it worked well so the image is alright.

I never got it to work on my VWii but it's not important anymore. I chose to use a homebrew from Psykos rather than backup my original game. His stuff has everything my original game has plus much more! It shows how great the homebrew scene is! I wouldn't have found this great alternative without my backup problems so I'm pretty happy it happened. :)

Thank you very much for your support!
