I would personally give it an 8.5 so far. darn good game, Cappy is a ton of fun to use and each enemy you capture has its own unique gameplay that really opens things up. My only complaint would be the occasional rare camera issue and some of the level design just not being what it was of past Mario games. Don't get me wrong, the platforming areas are still a ton of fun, just not up to par with some of the other Mario games. Game looks amazing, music is great, and the game feels great to play too.

I fell in love so fast. Like the first thing you do is turn in to a frog, which is fun af. Especially with all the noises Mario makes...I didn't think a ribbit could sound like an Italian asking a question.

Not long after you find the T-Rex, and use him to break down a wall which puts you into a 2D NES Mario stage. So much is packed into the game right at the beginning that I can't see the world being "too empty" as something that's really gonna be an issue.

The soundtrack is fantastic and the graphics are very impressive for Switch. Controls are probably the tightest among any 3D platformer I've played, even with possessions usually. I don't expect the difficulty to ramp up steeply, but regardless this is still a solid 9/10 at the least.

I've only collected 120 moons so far but I'd give it a 10/10. Many of the levels are so much fun to explore. The soundtrack is amazing too. The Wooded Kingdom theme is my favorite as it sounds very unique and groovy for a Mario game.

Also I enjoy taking a lot of photos with Snapshot Mode in this game. The ability to freeze the game, move the camera around, add filters, rotate, crop, etc... It's so much better than Breath of the Wild's Camera Rune. I really wish BotW had these features.

51 power moons in and I like it but don't love it but it's definitely 8.5 to 9. It's going to depend on the last boss fight and length for me. But I will say the music is excellent in some parts. The guitar song in that one wood board comes to mind.

I've already beat the game, I found the main story alittle on the easy\short side but I am going to try to collect everything which should add to the length\difficulty. I'm still enjoying the game, so I'd say a 8/10 is fair.

Meh. I'd give it a 6.5 or 7 at best so far (but I just beat the Metro Kingdom). Too little platforming, really boring worlds, almost zero difficulty with all of my deaths being due to failing long jums and captures. The capture gimmick is really annoying because it's overused and necessary to do pretty much ANYTHING, and there are too many power moons for really small things like ground pounding, making them really easy to miss. By the time you've been through the world's that require more than 10 moons to beat you've already seen everything about halfway through collecting the required moons making exploring really boring (although it already wasn't much fun since the worlds are pretty empty feeling) and collecting enough moons to advance very tedious. New Donk City was probably the only interesting world I've seen so far. The open world is clearly just in the game to make it sell and that's really obvious given how little thought went into it.

Super Mario 64 and Super Mario Sunshine are much better games. Pretty much any other main Mario game is a better choice actually.
I personally enjoy the game but it's not amazing. I'm not entirely sure why I don't love it yet but I've made it to the third kingdom and find myself less than thrilled about it.

The camera isn't great, and the rest feels a bit generic...

What am I missing here?
You've pretty much hit the nail on the head here. The reason it feels so generic (imo) is that it's Nintendo trying to play catch up with the open world fad. Most of the world's feel really empty because there's very little in them and the power moons aren't well placed. Super Mario 64 and Sunshine were good because they used smaller worlds with a lot of thought put into where the stars went. The power moons just feel like they're scattered and put places just because. Getting moons doesn't feel like an accomplishment because they just aeem scattered and you're not doing anything specific to get them with a lot of them just being in inconvenient places. Playing Super Mario Odyssey just makes me want to replay Jak and Daxter because that's an "open world" platformer done right.

TL;DR I think Odyssey is a failure as a platformer and "open world" game. Pretty much any main Mario game is a better choice, and there are many 3D collect-a-thon platformers that do a much better job at being what they are.

I think you only need 560 to get every hidden kingdom and costumes. And you can buy them for 100 coins per moon after you beat the game, but the list will still not shown as finished, just jack up the number for quick unlock.

And the last hidden kingdom is a fucking bitch to beat...took me hours...

A good solid 9.
Camera is a bit of a pain sometimes which drops a point.
Apart from that it's just pure gameplay entertainment, I love that you can binge on it for hours in front of the telly or grab 5 minute bursts of little challenges on the go.
As a game it understands completely the hybrid nature of the Switch, more so even than Zelda which struggled for short burst playtime.
