Bad news for people relying on HANS:
The way HANS works is incompatible with our current patches, since HANS doesn't load game updates and the code.bin cannot have a different size from the original.

Unfortunately, this means we have to drop support for HANS - you will need to install CFW via NTRBootHax once it releases. This is a very safe procedure: https://3ds.guide (it's not yet released)
Will I be able to use this patch on a digital copy?
No, sorry. Only physical copies will work.

I'm not affected by this but it really is a shame it couldn't be done in some way without CFW for those who do not like jailbreaking their 3DS (this is most people on the Ace Attorney fan boards from what I've gathered)

You don't think there's any chance after the project sees its first full release that compatibility for other methods can be added?

Let me guess. LayeredFS. So HANS and CFW would use the “same” method. It would make more sense, tbh.

Been wanting to create an account here many times, I felt like I had to thank you all for putting your efforts in this project, but I never did it, in the end. So, now that I finally got to it, thank you for your work, it surely means so much for a lot of people.
Welcome to the Temp

I won't rule it out completely, but all of our patches would need to be remade for the old, unupdated version.

Hopefully people will just take the plunge and just install CFW...

I hope so too :)
Is is possible to hardmod a rom of DGS with the patch? In that case the rest who don't wanna mess with softmodding can just play it on Citra someday.

No piracy. We went the extra mile to shut those out...

Nice to see you fighting piracy but it is a futile attempt. If it were that easy to stop piracy, devs themselves would be doing the exact same. Piracy is pretty much unstoppable. Even if this "Extra mile" stops pirates in their tracks, it's only a matter of time before it gets cut down.

Some cheap excuse for piracy.

If you're asking for the reason DGS didn't come to the west and all 3D AA games are digital-only outside Japan - look in the mirror. It's not that expensive to import DGS (infos on how to do that are in the OP). Nobody claimed this is perfect or uncrackable - but we refuse to feed pirates the game on a silver platter. It's mostly to make people aware that this game needs sales bad enough that fans would go the extra mile to help boost them.

The protection should be enough to keep the dumbest of pirates at bay, but it's not that elaborate - it will be cracked probably by someone who needs e-fame to compensate for the lack of something else (your guess is as good as mine). At least we have made a statement and tried. This may generate just a few additional sales.

But then - maybe the one sharing the cracked copy and the ones using it will get a nasty surprise they didn't expect - or not.

I'm not arguing, I'm just saying there are people out there that don't give two flying fucks about the devs, just their content. I fully support the AA series and the DGS series and don't mean any conflict with you and your team nor encouragement to game crackers. PS: I doubt it will get anyone e-fame since games are cracked everyday. It's not even surprising anymore. It may have got them e-fame back when we were still using Netscape Navigator with games that were only 130MB or less with our 200MB RAM. (I miss those days. Life was more simple. :'( )

While I don't agree with pirating everything (especially if you can afford the game) - it doesn't bother me as much for shovelware or AAA titles that will sell well either way. Both of those things do not apply to DGS.

If you like the Ace Attorney games, you might want to think twice about pirating them, since Visual Novels already have a hard time to get profitable sales in the west.

The truth is Capcom is too lazy to port a spinoff.

I don't think laziness has anything to do with it. More like roadblocks. It's not just translating.

Lies.

If they thought it would be profitable, they would do it. The head translator of the AA series (since AA2 iirc), Janet Hsu, did work on DGS. I'm sure she would love to localize DGS.

It's a spinoff but they could make much money anyway.

No, he's actually right. The Holmes Estate suing everyone using the character of Sherlock Holmes despite the copyright being expired is another reason.

Do You really believe a company would pass up on the chance to make "much money"? They make estimates and in the case of DGS they assumed it would not be worth their time.
