Okay, so i was playing breath of the wild [fakesign] had everything working for a FEW days, maybe a week max, when i began experiencing issues.. "There is a problem with the usb blah blah, Error code: 160-something" and like. I was at least 30 hours into BOTW, it started doing this around gerudo dessert to get to the divine beast. Then i gave up and tried doing something else in the game slowly and slowly the game would crash and mess up all over again. Sooner and sooner to starting up the game and now i cant even get past the pop up of the fakesign the wii u just crashes and says "An error has occured" kinda as the usb error message. I also JUST got my Y-cable for my Sandisk 128gb USB stick because i read that works, bought that two days ago just got it. Plugged that into my [turnt on] ps3 as well as the wii u. Didnt work, pligged both outlets into the wii u, same problem. Im losing my mind here guys. Please help me out. I also JUST bought the flash stick For this purpose. It was never used on anything else. I also already physically bought BOTW but once i found out about this backups i decided to give the game sealed to my nephew and im not going to be a dick and ask for it back. Please help!

If the Wii U detects the flash drive then you can use the standard Wii U management to transfer games and saves between usb

A sandisk 128GB USB Stick? that's the same one i use and its been working fine for almost 8 months, so you might have a defective one i suggest trying to take it back where you bought it from and see if they can replace it or refund it.

Ohh and don't buy a cheap HDD they go bad fast depending on the brand.

BotW and Wii U is a flashdrive killer. Nintendo themselves said NOT TO INSTALL on USB sticks, only on HDD or Wii U memory

Why did you pay $40 for a flash drive when that would cover the cost of a USB hdd?

Personally, I'd put BotW on the Wii U sys memory. If you ever plan to play Bayonetta 2, buy a 320 GB HDD from ebay for ~$30.00. Other games like Mario Kart 8, Splatoon, most eshop games, and VCs run fine on USB sticks.

It's doing fine in my end. Better than my old WD HDD ever did
Good luck with that keep playing BOTW and it will die at some point. USB flash drives are designed to be read from constantly but not written to constantly. Botw is constantly writing to the USB that is why there has been a huge number of people who's usb storage has broke. HDDs and nand chips are designed for constant read and writes and that is why Nintendo themselves have said to never use a usb flash drive for BOTW

Definitely get a hard drive. That's what you need the y-cable for: 2.5" drives that don't have an external power supply need power from a second USB port (not a problem with USB 3.0 but Nintendo wasn't that forward-thinking, unfortunately, so even if you have a USB 3.0-compatible enclosure, you still need a y-cable). A USB flash drive doesn't have this problem as it does not require additional power above that which USB 2.0 (or 1.1 or whatever you want to specify) provides by default from a single port.

I usually find it cheaper to buy an internal hard drive and then an enclosure but just look around for cheap external hard drive recommendations - you should be able to get a 1TB HDD for a trivial price, especially a 3.5" drive (but that will require external power and arguably be louder, so keep that in mind).

As others have said, you don't want to use a USB flash drive because it'll die eventually (or relatively quickly, with games such as BOTW).

Also, if your Sandisk USB drive is dead and you've only just bought it, take it back and get it replaced on warranty. No reason it should die that soon apart from being faulty.
