Ok - forgive me for being a newb... but I can just download the WUD Loader from the HBC and install the game to the NAND/external HDD via that app?

There's a whole load of options looking at it.. if i install to an external HDD do I need to use some app like Loadiine to access or will it show up on the WiiU normal Launcher screen? although arguably if i get external HDD i could just buy the digital app. seems Zelda takes up pretty much the majority of the internal storage for a 32GB wiiU on its own!
No worries! I was in the same boat only a few days ago. lol You will need to install Custom Firmware in order to install it on NAND (and it can't be the loadiine version unfortunately). If you decide to go that route, use Skullator's vid here.

He's very thorough (and very nice to reply =)) HOWEVER, the FunkiiU method he goes over is complicated. Use the 'WiiU USB Helper'. Makes life MUCH easier in the downloading aspect of it.

Otherwise, it sounds like it would simply be easier to just clear room on your NAND and just get it through eShop. It takes up right around 13GB total; game and update. Worry about getting a usb and playing your older games later; play Zelda now. ;)

Thanks - I may be able to borrow a HDD caddy/HDD from my brother so considering looking into that in the meantime too...
so I can get the haxchi stuff loaded, the fm.img boots, and then use wiiu usbh to put the cards onto my usb drives... i think! thanks - i'll probably be back in a few days/weeks if i can borrow the hdd stuff and see if that works.

if all else fails I could just play my Wind Waker HD that i havent finished yet till i can afford a Switch :P

I asked in another thread about an all-in-one WiiU with vWii vs separate hacked Wii and WiiU. I'm going the all-in-one route.

So as I understand things, I can't go with Mocha or vWii won't work. Is that true for all CFW or just Mocha? Is there anything else major I need to forego/avoid?

Thanks!

Avoid redNAND. Just use Mocha CFW to boot into sigpatched sysmenu [RedNAND OFF when starting up Mocha CFW for first time]
and you will be able to access vWii just fine!

Don't use fw.img. This tutorial is older than me [puns]
Use Mocha CFW or install newest Haxchi on sysNAND [Not fw.img one!]
Set Haxchi to
"a=wiiu/apps/homebrew_launcher/hbl.elf
b=wiiu/apps/<anything you want here>
default=sysmenu"
Install it over legit DS VC game and bam! Sigpatched sysmenu without need to fire up useless fw.img anymore!

i did haxchi - it boots up fw.img - what's the benefit using mocha?
If you have HaxChi there is no benefit in using Mocha unless you're a loadiine user. You can get fat32 USB support on loadiine with Mocha. But really loadiine is old method

Ok guys might be a really stupid question...
But after searching this forum for a couple of hours I dont know any more then before...
I am looking for the safest way to play cracked games on wiiU. I did the a9LH-Hack on my 3ds too.
So is there any way to get a cfw starting with sysnand? I would LOVE that
thanks guys!

Go for CBHC and HaxChi.

If you don't want to spend less than 10 bucks for a DS game then use Mocha. Just a few extra clicks after boot

Ok so this would be enough?
SD Card 32 GB -> Homebrew Launcher -> one of the 3 options mentioned by you?

And then I would be able to launch "homebrew" versions of games?
And install backups?

I'm planning to move into Haxchi 2.
Can I still play online? (Got original smash bros and Mario Kart discs)
Can I play online with downloaded games?
If not, is there any way to do so?

Thanks!

New to the WiiU scene here. Just looking for some input from others.
I have spent the past week researching the scene and I feel I have a grasp on what I need. I have modded consoles and handhelds in past so the actual doing is not difficult, I am just looking for input on the final setup.
Basically just looking to play backups of my games, reason being my son is not the best at handling disks, I have a broken Nintendo Land as proof.
I am leaning toward haxchi without cold boot.
I worry about CBHC in case by chance my son turns on the WiiU while I am not around and holds down a button he could end up in the boot menu and mess things up. Is this correct?
Also, with out CBHC, if turned on and haxchi not activated, games will simply not load, correct? Is there anything to worry about with this setup?
Thank you in advance for any help.

That's my setup as well (kid included ^_^) and no worries. Not using CBHC for the exact same reason.
Without Haxchi activated, non-legit ticket games will just not load.

Hi, I have Haxchi - no CBHC, managed to load 8 Wii U titles to my 500gb WD elements USB drive all good. When I try to install vc titles (like 3ds games, etc) downloaded from UtikDownloadHelper and WiiU uSb Helper I get Error: MPC_InstallGetInfo 0xFFFBF3E2. Confirm complete WUP files are in the folder. Also I am now unable to install any games to my USB but installs to nand fine...when trying to install to USB the install will run for a few seconds, then my USB will make a click sound and the percentage bar freezes. All the previous installed games on the USB seem to run fine. The USB is brand new only been used on Wii U. I have now installed what I believe is called IOSU Hax (aka: fw.img method) I still have the same issue with this custom fw running.I have not used a Y-cable adapter for my USB - powered from just one port, and I have tried all 4 USB ports with same issue every time.
My questions: 1. am I correct in thinking that fw.img/IOSU Hax is now outdated and haxchi can do everything that method can do (like run unsigned content)?
2. What am I missing regarding installing VC games to either nand or USB? Do I need to modify tickets? If so please point me in the right direction as I cant find this info anywhere.
3. Any ideas on why I can no longer install to my USB drive?

Many thanks in advance and thank you to all the brilliant minds who have brought this scene to life :)

Questions about vWii modding....
1) what are the surefire ways to brick vWii that should be avoided.
2) any kid-friendly recommendations for a modded vWii? I do not plan on using CBHC for the reason, but would like to make things as easy as possible.
Thx!

1. Outdated. Very, very outdated. Follow wiiubru.com/guide instead (and my redNAND-free guide)
Haxchi has it's own built-in CFW so launching fw.img is like launching a CFW inside a CFW while being in a CFW.
2. VC Games will install correctly with Wup Installer GX2/Mod Y with correct CFW such as Mocha CFW, Haxchi CFW and CBHC.
3. What error do you get? If you get error about insufficient power then buy a Y-cable.

1. Banner bricks, wrong cIOS/IOS installs, trying to install Priiloader etc.
Most common brick issue is mostly caused by installing Wii cIOS & IOSes.
2. vWii is isolated from Wii U menu so hacks like CBHC will not affect vWii. CBHC only allows you to boot directly into vWii menu, sysmenu and other.

1. Thank you for clearing that up, soI dont need a fw.img on root of sd any more with haxchi either?
2. I have Mocha and Haxchi but not CBHC - do I need CBHC as well as Mocha and haxchi to install and run VC?
3 I get 'error: MPC_InstallGetInfo 0xFFFBF3E Confirm complete WUP files are in the folder' every time when trying to install VC and 'there is a problem with the USB storage device error code: 160-4714' sometimes when installs to USB fail. Its odd how I managed to install a good few game to USB before it started doing this. I ordered Y-cable last night ;)
