I think it is far from perfected yet, still a somewhat messy mod. On the Russian forum this has been discussed several times but to be honoust haven't followed that in quite a while. I don't speak Japanese but you could try to follow Honeylab's blog. As far as I understood Honeylab's solution is your best bet at the moment, hopefully Cluster or someone else proves me wrong.

i can help with both mods explained a bit, not that i can read all but the schematics are easy enough...
for the sd-card mod you'll need real thin wires, like on the schematics, the resistors are most likely 1kohm for noise canselation just like the coil and the capasitor would do.
the sd-card mod will be in stead of the original nand so there's no os when the sd-card is in.

there is also an external hdd mod, you'll need a non usb-powered external hdd, a custom usb cable since appart from the data the nes mini classic needs power over it also, within the nes you'll need to change the schematic of the usb driver like it's done on almost all smartphones...

Please post user mods that you come across here. So far I only have RetroArch and CloverShell, so it would be great if more people linked to mods.
https://github.com/pcm720/retroarch-clover

Edit - I understood your question after I posted this and don't know how to delete a post. Anyway on pcm720 github you can find extra cores for PSX, Sinclair computers etc. I am curious if someone tried Lakka already for RetroArch and if a bypass of the GUI of the NESCE is possible on boot to use Lakka instead. This might solve some issues people are having with folders since we barely have space on our machines. Also we wouldn't need a PNG file for every single game.

One more question- compressing ROMs for RetroArch was disabling the ability to make restore points for SNES/GB/GBC games that I added so I unzipped them all. Only problem is I'm now over the size limit at 310 MB, so I just need to shave off a few precious megabytes to make everything functional, which leads me to the question.

Any chance there's some ROM trimmers out there for SNES/GB/GBC? Particularly GBC, because with a fair few of them are 4MB, trimming them will be essential to saving space.

Soooo.... question. I saw in the custom bios template thing it talked about Sega Cd... has anyone tried Sega CD on the lil Nes? I know only a few games COULD be loaded up due to space.. but Vay would fit. So just was wondering. ^^

The wait is almost over. No more rc. I'll be staying up late tonight (it's 9.30 PM here).

Compressed files save just fine in my case.

Version 2.14 released: https://github.com/ClusterM/hakchi2/releases/tag/2.14

It's very experimental version. There are many things need to do from the scratch since I discovered new data transfer method on NES Mini. But I don't want you to wait so long. I added new transfer method but left the old interface. Also I'm not sure that many people want new versions since hype train is gone :)

Warning: If you updating from previous version hakchi2 will ask you to reinstall custom kernel. It's normal :)

So, what's new
  • Main modification - new transfer method. It's very fast. You can upload 300 MBytes of games in ~1.5-2 minutes. Also you don't need to hold reset and switch your NES Mini on/off. Just connect it to PC and turn on as usual.
  • It's possible to change settings without re-uploading games.
  • New driver installer should work on all Windows versions since XP. Please report me about any problems.
  • Also better compatibility with Windows XP.
  • You can drag'n'drop box art to main window now.
  • Also it's possible to drag'n'drop module files.
  • Automatic NES Mini/Famicom Mini detection.
  • New hacked clovercon driver allows to use most (or all?) 3rd party classic controllers now.
  • Autofire working for X/Y buttons too now (enable in menu and hold select+X or select+Y for a second).
  • USB library changed to LibWinUsb, it's more portable.
  • New game consoles, new images (thanks to NeoRame!)
  • Many minor bugfixes and improvements.
P.S. Don't forget to update RetroArch mod: https://github.com/ClusterM/retroarch-clover/releases :)

Do we have to update the RetroArch mod? I am using pcm's version 0.4, which is the last version to utilize the snes9x2010 core as standard (after that he switched it to snes9x2005). I would like to keep that RetroArch mod, but also have the benefit of the new features in hakchi2.14. Is that going to be a problem?

You can just uncheck snes9x2010 checkbox during installation.

That's not how it works for me. The latest release makes the snes9x2005 core the default for SNES games. I want the other core, which is currently installed on my machine. Are you saying to just install the latest RetroArch hmod, but don't install any separate cores? I don't want to have to enter command lines and all that.

Read below Cluster's post... ;)

I did. That's why I asked if we absolutely had to update it.

But SNES core is separate module. You can install latest RetroArch pack without SNES core and then install SNES core from old RetroArch pack.
Anyway, there are not so much changes to RetroArch. You can continue using version 0.4 without any problems.

Can I use 2 snes cores?
Yes, but you need to specify core name on command line.
That way:
/bin/retroarch-clover <core_name> <rom_name>

For example:
/bin/retroarch-clover snes9x2005 /usr/share/bla-bla-bla/Yoshis_Island.smc

By default will be used last installed core.

Not sure about this error.

I updated retroarch, copied dump, config, user_mods, and games folder. reinstalled custom kernel
