Hacking Health and Safety troubleshooting

Hey, so right now I'm at this stage of the downloading process, Section VI. It says I should be able to Open Health and Safety and that will lead me to the FBI process, but it doesn't. So I looked into the troubleshooting segment right above it which describes my problem.

This takes me here.I've made it to part 6 where the guide explains I should see two sets of app and tmd files, one set lower case and the other upper case; however, I don't have the uppercase files and the guide doesn't say where those should be. Does anyone know what I'm missing from this part that I need to add to my SD card?

I've had the same problem, after hours of figuring out what happened, I just given up, restored my console back, and did everything with more focus again and all went well this time (should done this from the start), so just do it again, and hope for the best

Hmm, that's a really sad outcome :/ To be honest, I'm not even sure how to do that without a guide. I kinda wish I had someone that knew what they were doing more than I do here to walk me through it in person. le sigh

We can probably help you better if you tell us exactly what you did, and if anything seemed to be different to what the guide said should happen.

So first of all, I want to point out how I've been downloading and adding all these files across the entire guide. Whenever the guide tells me I need something, I scroll up to it and download the necessary files and move ONLY what files are specifically mentioned and nothing else. As a result, there are a few files that were never used because they were never directly mentioned. I don't want to add things I'm not told to add because I don't know what kind of an effect they'll have on my system.

In regards to the troubleshooting segment for the Health and Safety section, I'm shown that I need the latest release of GodMode9. I downloaded that, but there's also a SafeMode9.zip file on the same page. The guide doesn't mention this file and I did not place it on the SD card. What I did do was follow the directions exactly as they're written. I started my 2DS while holding Up, followed the navigation instructions, and that all successfully brought me to the 'content' folder for the old 3DS USA section of the files. In there, the guide said I should see two seeds of .app and .tmd files, a set that are all lower case letters, and a set that area all upper case letters. Well, my folder doesn't contain either upper case letter file, only the lower case. Somehow, I'm missing these files.

The reason I'm using this guide is because the Health and Safety app on my 2DS doesn't go into this FBI segment that the main guide describes. It goes to the normal Health and Safety application on the device. If there's any more details about a specific segment that you need, I'm happy to go into more detail. I've been working on this on and off all day. I'm more than willing to take screenshots of my SD card, like what files exist where, or anything else that can help you or anyone identify the source of this problem.

It would probably be better if we troubleshoot why FBI doesn't work. Did anything unusual happen when you injected FBI? Did you select the fbi_injected.app to inject and not hs.app?

Sounds like a plan. But to be honestly, I'm not entirely sure. As I recall, everything seemed to fit what the guide was telling me. Is it possible for me to redo that segment and overwrite whatever error was caused?

I went through the instructions carefully again and found a quirky spot where I did something in the wrong place. I did the fbi injection in the wrong place, and now I made it successfully to the right place. Just wanted to let you know that everything regarding this topic has been solved. There's no more need for responses here. Thanks for the help, though. I really appreciate having a community of helpful people guiding me through this process.

I just want to point out that your method of following the guide is a bit iffy. You should've just downloaded all of the files, and extracted them to your SD card like the guide tells you to. None of the files in the guide can harm your 3DS unless used in the wrong way, but you'll only be using those files within the guide itself anyways.

I'm really curious whatever you mean by "doing fbi injection in the wrong place" though.

None of the files in the guide can harm your 3DS unless used in the wrong way, but you'll only be using those files within the guide itself anyways.

You're probably right. It's just a little scary being someone who's not that familiar with how this stuff works. It's probably why I keep running into small hiccups again and again. I'm really close to being done with everything but now I'm at another stopping point where I'm not seeing what I should be seeing.

What happened before was, I did the Health and Safety dump to hs.app after booting my device into Hourglass9. When I went to select the FBI inject, I was selecting the same hs.app. When i reread the instructions more carefully, I realized I needed to do that on the regional injectable.app, not the hs.app. That's why it wasn't pulling up for me went I went into health and safety.

All of those steps worked, and now I'm stuck in a spot where the instructions are telling me to select "DSP Dump" from the Homebrew Launcher, but all I see are Region free launcher and SafeA9LHInstaller. I feel like I'm making lots of stupid mistakes and its making me feel embarrassed :/

You don't have DSP Dump in your Homebrew Launcher because you've not downloaded the file or you have, but you've not put the folder or file inside your "3DS" folder on your SD card. The Homebrew launcher pulls all apps you can use within it from that 3ds folder.

Which means that again, you've not followed the instructions completely.

In the 3DS.Guide, at Installing A9LH at Step 16 it says:

1. Copy DspDump.3dsx to the /3ds/ folder on your SD card

If you cannot see DSP Dump in HBL, you've not done the above step.


By the way, DSP Dump is not relevant. DSP Dump allows you to hear sound within Homebrew applications, but that's not really relevant now is it? It does not affect games. You might as well install it, but you don't have to.

Like I'm in the middle of fixing that new mistake right now, but I still have a lot more things to do to get what I want from Homebrew, so I really need to crack down on my attention to detail and make sure I'm not making any further errors.

I just need to use a little common sense, I'm just acting skittish and cautious because there are steep consequences for doing something wrong.

I did finish everything the guide brought me through though, so I'm making some major improvements. Now I just need to find the guides for getting the patch I want and all the minutia associated with it and how to actually use homebrew. Needless to say I'll be spending a lot of time diving through this forum digging for guides.

Thank you. There's a thread dedicated to the game and patch I'm looking for, and someone their just offered to guide me to what I need to download through PM so I think I'll be good. You've been very kind though, so I appreciate all the help
