So I JUST finished hacking a N3ds using the normal guide and got to the part where I could safely delete files. Like an idiot, I misread the part about what I could delete, realizing my mistake just as my finger let off the delete key. The files aren't in my windows 7 recycle bin and weren't restored by ctrl+Z. Can they be redownloaded fresh or were they special for my system?

What folder exactly did you delete?
3ds? That's just homebrew, just put the Homebrew Starter Kit on it again.
Nintendo 3DS? Then you are kinda boned. You CAN redownload everything from the eShop, but you just lost all saves

You can try restoring files using some file recovery software (I can remember one name, Recuva, but no idea if it's any good), but those are always hit and miss.

awesome, ty all.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

And seconds later I deleted the arm9loaderhax.bin I'm supposed to keep, and can't seem to find in my folders.... That's also a standard file, right?

This is what I get for calling a talkative friend for help. The release.7z only contains payloads. I promise this will be the last mistake. >.>

I restored it with Recuva as suggested above. Everything is working well now, except that whenever I exit out of the System options or start from a cold boot, the system refuses to start with the SD card inserted. I can pop it out, start again, and insert it hot and everything works fine, but this could be problematic down the road as this is a New 3DS and requires a screwdriver to open the back... Is this a known issue?

It may be a problem with homemenudata. Try deleting that. On the next boot it with SD card it will be recreated.

It's located in Nintendo3ds/ random alphanumeric folder/ look for a folder like 000008f (USA) and delete it (back it up if you wanna be safe) and then try booting with SD card.

First off, don't necrobump. Now, first redownload the latest version of Luma from here: https://github.com/AuroraWright/Luma3DS/releases/tag/v9.1
Inside the 7zip file you will find a file named "boot.firm", put that in the root of your SD card. Then, just redo the entire "Finalizing" section on the 3ds.hacks.guide (or at least just FBI and GM9): https://3ds.hacks.guide/finalizing-setup Check the previous step in the guide if you need help working out how to get homebrews to work.

What is with all these: “I want my 3DS back to normal!” lately?! I just don't get it. Why install Homebrew/cfw just to remove it again?

@ELIJAH1234:
  1. Never follow video guides. The page https://3ds.hacks.guide/ is all you need.
  2. Deleting stuff on your SD does not remove B9S (boot9strap) - it is installed on the internal NAND(chip) of the 3DS.
  3. Usually only (Luma) boot.firm is missing when “Blue light on and off and nothing.”
  4. Follow the finalizing part of the guide like already @ThoD suggested.
  5. Do not rush it, when you think about removing the custom firmware(cfw)! Read the sticky thread about this. Usually removing cfw won’t help and worse: You remove all tools that could help you in solving problems. If certain modifications have been done, removing cfw can brick the system (read both read boxes on this page). The cfw is pretty solid and almost foolproof. Once set up correctly you will likely have no problems.
  6. Frogminer/Seedminer is not nonsense. It is the only pure software exploit for the current firmware 11.8.
Next time you have (simple) questions post them in the 3DS NOOB PARADISE and not some random old thread. If you have specific bigger problems, open a new thread.

One addition to the finalizing page @ThoD mentioned:
The finalizing page does not tell you to download boot.3dsx because if one followed the whole guide, it is already there. This will lead to another well known error when you try to inject the Homebrew Menu into Download Play.

Good luck. You will probably not have to buy a new console.
