Please someone reply!

I am on an original white Wii with 4.3U and cannot get the Homebrew Browser to install anything!

The Homebrew Channel is installed and I can run games just fine. I have installed the d2x IOS in 247 and 248 I believe. There is already an IOS in 249 from years ago when I first did this for simple wad games like Super Mario 2/3 and Sega Genesis games, which I used USB Loader GX. Years ago, the Homebrew Browser would install apps but now it will not.

It will download them, but fails to install them onto the SD card (2GB FAT32 filesystem). I even tried removing the Homebrew Browser and manually placed the new version in the apps folder as well. The only message I get is something like 'Create Folder Failed' or something. I also have checked the write protect tab and it is off. I also used another SD card, freshly formatted to FAT32 with same results. Homebrew Browser was 0.3.9c at first and I noticed some message about downloading the new version, which it did and then when it went to download images I think, then extract them - it failed. That's why I manually installed the new version. Can anyone start replying to my thread and help me troubleshoot this because this is not normal - plus, nobody replied to my last thread from a week ago. I cannot run Syscheck either (I can run all other apps just fine), so I tried downloading and manually installing Syscheck162 in the apps folder. Again, all other apps will run in the apps folder. If I try to run Syscheck, it starts tells me a few things about the console and then immediately returns to either the boot2 with BootMii or the Wii Homescreen as IOS. Syscheck does write a file to the SD card but it doesn't have all the details about the slots and what IOS is where.

Please someone, reply with some thoughts on what I can do to start checking and troubleshooting this as I am too fearful to do this on our newer Wii U until I get this fixed. I can't see that installing the d2x IOS in 247 and 248 would be causing this so where do you guys suggest I start?

Brian

P.S. If you have questions, please ask me - I'm open to even bricking this damn thing at this point, but I just don't get why these two specific apps give me so much trouble when all the games play fine!

Okay all, so I have my own update here (at least for Syscheck not completing) but Homebrew Browser still does not download apps. I did a Google search for just Syscheck freezing and found that there was a newer version that Syscheck 162. So I once again manually downloaded and installed the newer version on the SD card from my PC (since HBB doesn't work) and found that Syscheck GX 2.1.0.b19 did work and complete fine as expected. Here are the results below, please someone review these and help me get HBB 0.3.9e working please!

You're not the only one...Homebrew Browser hasn't worked for me in the past few months (getting the same 'Create Folder error') and I remember seeing other posts with the same issue.

I think the homebrew browser just isn't supported anymore - you're better off going to the WiiBrew site and finding what you need and installing it manually.

Hi... You are ok with Homebrew Browser, don't panic..... I was to ask for a Syscheck but you posted it...

The only thing is you are out of date for your cIos... Just Softmod your Wii again with ModMii for Systems menu 4.3U and it will update everything you need and you will be ok. That's it.

And for a Syscheck, use the one in my signature when you do your update and post it again if you have trouble after that.

What are you downloading to? The HBB is almost defunct now and as far as I recall it's pretty limited on what it runs from. FAT32 SD, not SDHC/SDXC, is most likely to work.

As it's a WiiBrew project it won't be using cIOSes, only original system ones.

Everything available through the HBB is on WiiBrew.org.

@azzarod You are awesome, thank you for replying. I thought I'd never get one. I know I can manually install it but it would be best to have that HBB when I go to do this on our Wii U. Getting my wife to manually install stuff is never a good idea but thanks for the suggestion (as that's what I'm already doing now).

@John_Ice Thanks also for the reply. I guess I am confused as to your suggestion that my cIOS is out of date. Which one (aren't these all the 200+ that one has or can modify), I thought one can't do certain ones below 60 or something as those are system ones? Also, I tried installing DOP-Mii from another post but I haven't been successful in getting it to run, even after getting the latest v16 build from Github or the Google code repository.

@GreyWolf I am running this from an SD card (2GB Patriot microSD from 2011 when I first did this I think). BTW, I also had great success using a newer 32GB SDHC UHS Class10 as well but to ensure there were no issues with compatibility, I went back to the 2GB for this ordeal. So, if HBB doesn't use these cIOS 247/248/249 and so on then which one(s) does it use? I tried to create an account (register) on the HBB dev site but it looks like they have a PHP mailer config error (possibly from that zero day that was discovered over Christmas) so I couldn't even create an account.

Do any of you use HBB still (Wii or Wii U)?

The problem I see is :

IOS247[57] (rev 21006 Info: d2x-v6): Trucha Bug NAND Access USB 2.0
IOS248[56] (rev 21006 Info: d2x-v6): Trucha Bug NAND Access USB 2.0
IOS249[36] (rev 21 Info: rev 21): Trucha Bug ES Identify NAND Access
IOS250[58] (rev 21 Info: rev 21): Trucha Bug NAND Access USB 2.0

And do you have any reason to use Base [36] in slot 249 and Base [58] in slot 250 instead Base [56] in slot 249 and base [57] in slot 250 ?

@John_Ice I am confused as to this question, specifically the use of the word instead. What is installed and listed in the first two base 57/56 is what is described as being required for the d2x cIOS installer. In fact, I had to do these specifically because Super Mario Wii wouldn't run at all when I ran that image for the first time. I am using the base 36/58 because they are there (?) and that's what was said to use when I first modded the Wii?

In fact, I think the IOS249 in that slot is where Letterbomb exploit puts this if I recall. I recently ran the HackMii Letterbomb exploit again and removed BootMii from boot2 and used an IOS instead. Maybe that's where it came from, I can't recall specifically as it seems so many threads exist to install this IOS here and that IOS there to get whatever to work. I'm not a big advocate of changes without having a valid reason, especially looking at it from an ITIL (IT and InfoSec stand point). In any case, I think the 249 in base 36 is done by the HackMii Letterbomb exploit but I can't recall where the IOS250 came from. If I could get this DOP-Mii app to run, maybe that would help. Does this help answer your reply?

Thx - Brian

You shouldn't remove BootMii boot2, it provides excellent brick protection. I suggest reinstalling it.

You don't need the cIOS249 and 250 you have installed, they're outdated. Instead you should install d2x cIOS v8 or v10-beta52 into slot 249 and 250, with base 56 and 57 respectively, this is the setup that ModMii recommends.

@The Real Jdbye Well that's interesting because I thought I'd already followed the info about having to use the d2x for 247/248. I needed those I think to get the Super Mario Wii wbfs image running if I recall. So now you are suggesting to what, run the d2x installer again and overwrite the ones for 249/250 in those base slots? Won't that cause an issue with the 247/248 that I installed already there since they occupy those base slots as described to use by the developer (http://gwht.wikidot.com/d2x)?

BTW, I also remember the other reason I installed the d2x was because I needed the Config USB Loader to load wbfs from SD card instead of the USB Loader GX which would only use an external USB flash. I really wanted to keep it all internal but at this point, I could give a rats ass since I just want it to all work harmoniously. Therefore, again you recommend that I ignore the developer instructions where it said to install d2x or what?

You can remove 247 and 248, they won't be needed anymore after updating 249 and 250. It won't solve your Homebrew Browser issue, though.

@The Real Jdbye Well that's helpful I guess, but the main issue was the damn HBB. Does anyone still use HBB, do they have a config output that they may be willing to share?

Use Modmii for updating your cIOS with d2x cIOS v8 into slot 249 and 250, with base 56 and 57. It will provide you all the thing you need to install for your SD Card. And you will have all you need.

Just chiming in that I recently did a full remod/rebuilt of my RVL-001 using mauifrog's guide.
I am unable to get HBB to work with the same create folder errors in the OP with it installed to either my USB or SD card.

In all honesty, there isn't really any reason to have HBB browser anymore as it isn't like new homebrew is being frequently released.
Even WiiBrew has out of date information as to the most up to date version of some apps, and quite a few links to download are broken.

I would just slap the SD card into a PC and manually download what you need from WiiBrew of from googling.
