Merry tempmas folks , and here to brighten up your day(I hope) is me. today we'll be talking with @osaka35 ,about the game he hates the most .... METROID : OTHER M .
Normal KYG rules still apply .meaning :
The pubic asks , the witness answers .

the story is just the worst kind of junk, by itself and placed beside the rest of the metroid story. the worst part is many of the most agregious errors couod have been correct with a slight bit of judicial editing. change adam from "giving her permission" to him working on getting her suit working or something. something that isn't pants-on-head questionable. most of the story is like this. i'm currently working on editing the cutscenes and subtitles to try and fix some of the more egregious problems. othet m is basically the star wars prequels of the metroid universe.

gameplay is okay, though the switch between nes mode and laser pointer mode is handled as well as the rest of the game(not very well). though who knew an nes controller could be made to work with 3d? the concept isn't inherently bad, but they didn't quite pull off nes mode enough to be "fun", just "functional". the "finish him!" thing was loads of fun...when it worked.

my least favorite parts, besides the story, were those pixel-hunts where you had to point to the exact right spot on a static image before proceeding in the game. with little or no context or hints. it's not honest attempts done poorly, like large chunks of the game. the pixel-hunts are just sloppy and lazy design.

the OST at least tries. it's uninspiring and forgetful, but it's not annoying. they didn't try generic 90s rock or dubstep. worst of the metroid series though? i can get behind that sentiment.

If you're a fan of the other Metroid games (the original Metroid/Super Metroid, Metroid Prime, etc...), but haven't played Other M, would you recommend playing it? Or is it something that should just flat out be skipped?

if played, it should be played last. federation force and other M are the furthest away from metroid center, but both are considered canon (but not at the same time, funny enough. other M assumes the prime series doesn't exist).

i'd recommend playing them if you've found yourself a fan of the metroid games by playing the others. it's a quality example how not to handle a series. how you can take all the visuals and have a good premise, but through misunderstanding the core mechanics and narrative, bungle it all up.

if you're looking to explore what works for metroid, and contrast that with what doesn't, i'd recommend it. if you just want a fun metroid experience, i'd recommend against it. for me, it helped my crystalize what exactly i liked about metroid. i was in love with other m before i played it...but then i played it lol.

favorite was probably "remember me?" guy. not because he was good, but because he was so terrible, he was so out of place, he always made me laugh. an odd experience during Metroid. that and he was the only character to have an impact on the story. if samus wasn't there, the story would have progressed exactly the same.

this game is available for wii, as well as wii u (as a wii virtual console title)

oh, and i hate adam. he seemed like a tool, an ass, and a moron. i think they were going for stoic "thinks ahead", but the narrative turned him into "i don't know what i'm doing, so i'm gonna brood" man.
