Do you ever feel negative about buying a game that gets ported to modern console?

To be honest i have some mixed opinions about stuff like this, regarding this generation of games and consoles, with mention of nintendo switch getting a mario kart port, smash bros port, zelda breath of the wild (Maybe can't call it a port, i dunno) Then they got Final fantasy 10 HD ports... to ps4, the kingdom hearts 1.5 HD and 2.5 HD port to ps4, MAJORITY OF PSVITA GAMES ported to ps4 and such, is kinda nuts.

One thing i do like is on psn there is some games that has the branded motto of "Cross buy, cross pay, cross save" Where you can buy a game on playstation store, and get it for all available systems (PSVITA, PS3, PS4, PSP) as examples. But not every game gets this privlage of saving you money and require to buy it all over again to play on another system.

But stuff like Ultra street fighter 4, Devil may cry 4, Marvel vs capcom 3 on Playstation store, or maybe the Zelda wind waker and twilight princess HD which add some things to the game, like fixing previous issues with the game, added new content or features to give variety or just adding all previous added DLC that you might already have but find it unnecessary to get again. A upgrade adds new stuff that wasn't before. The HD collections of Kingdom hearts and final fantasy 10, Zelda wind waker and twilight princess adds new content, stuff we didn't have anymore, the main selling point isn't that is now in HD or better framerate.

I mean how do you feel about that, knowing i have both Kingdom hearts HD on ps3 and then have them wanna sell it on PS4 But offer no actual difference, same 1080P graphics, same performance and features. I can't tell the reason for this, i guess is not aimed at me, the difference in some ports are very small and not worth what could be consider upgrade but is probably more for people who doesn't have it or give them a reason to be interested by adding another game to a already small library for the console. But i'm asking normal people like me about the opinion. Every consoles main selling point is the exclusive content i thought.

You wish maybe you had waited longer before buying it, or you not regret this decision, or maybe even just will sell it and get the upgrade? I honestly never sold any game i owned, but is just me. I'm not some collector, i just can't part with stuff i worked hard for.

not too bad really , if I missed it on an older console i'll get it for the one I currently have , for example the blazblue games , I missed chronophantasma on the ps3 . so i'm getting it on vita , even though I convinced my local library to buy it for the ps4 .:rofl2: i'm not paying for em , my library is . so I don't really care . every time a new game comes out i'll tell the librarians and they'll buy it right away .

Umm this really doesn't help since you didn't buy anything. Of course it wouldn't concern you cause there is no obligation to it.

I tend to buy games second hand for next to nothing so feeling bad if I somehow make a bad pick passes quickly enough. Beyond that I would tend to only get a remake if the original device I played it on is troublesome or I missed out the first time around, or if I somehow screwed up and purchased a console with no games and needed to extract some value from it.

Unless the game is radically redone a la Perfect Dark XBLA, though the N64 gets more of a pass owing to most of the games being damn near unplayable these days, then I would never buy anything for XBLA or PSN or wii VC when I have emulators ready to go.

I tend to play most games on the Xbox platform.
Majority of the One games I'll have to get second hand anyway so I feel quite indifferent from it.

What makes you think Switch is getting Mario Kart and Smash Bros ports? To me they seem to be new games, or at least tech demos.

Well someone gets me. ^_^

And someone else (won't say who) missed the topic of discussion.

But that kinda what i meant about the idea of the games being ported recently, is being kinda sad in my opinion and not really doing much besides "Hey is your favorite game on this system, go buy it, play it, is fun, remember?" Is then for me to be like, i have this and it works just fine, why would i need this one? Where it doesn't give much of a reason to get it cause is nothing new that i didn't have before or already.

A phrase I have used before and a title of a favourite album/compilation.
Give me convenience or give me death.

If I don't have to fire up the 360 and put in borderlands, and hope the DLC is installed on this machine, when I can instead just pop in the Xbone collection with it all there and playing just as well... the notion does not lack appeal.

I don't mind at all. If it's a game I like a lot, I wouldn't mind getting an upgraded version with better resolution and maybe some extra features.
If it isn't a game I like, I couldn't care less about a port.

If it's just a port with NO added features or updated graphics or anything... I wouldn't buy it.

Well, if you want to "upgraded experince" get the modern console (or PC).
If it's about games being ported to other platforms in general,
No, gaming is about playing good games. If more games on more platforms, more people can enjoy that game!

People who live in this echo-chamber of "NO I DON'T WANT PS4 EXCLUSIVE TO COME TO PC MAI GAME" or something from xbox 360 to one like that, is a fucking retard.

I've never really understood the negativity people feel towards porting. It means more people get to play the game - a win for all.

If we all waited until the 'ultimate' version, we wouldn't ever play anything.

My opinion is pretty much exclusively from the sidelines. I'm mainly playing indie games, and I seldomly if ever come across a port-with-something-extra (guacamelee is the only exception that I can think of right now). So this entire "now play the same game in HD!!!" doesn't really get me. Sleeping dogs is about the only AAA-title I've recently played or bought DLC from. Then there came an ultimate version, but since I purchased both versions (and the DLC) at discounts, I still ended up paying less than the original price. So there as well: how can I feel ripped off when I know exactly what I'm buying?

I do, however, feel kind of sad for collectors and those who have the need to buy stuff at launch price. You just know in advance prices will drop dramatically in about a month, as well as bugfixes. Perhaps their backlog isn't as large to spend the time waiting? I don't know. I can but say that these HD-remakes aren't a bad thing on that front either (nobody could have played all the games when they originally came out. Even with unlimited budget there simply isn't enough time for that).
It would have been a bad thing if game studios blocked new game ideas in favor of remakes, but that's not the case. HD remakes require relatively little effort and generate them easy profits...which'll no doubt gets invested in actually new games down the line. :)

I agree perfection is an unattainable goal. However porting and developing are still consumers of the same limited dev resources and if I can see something new rather than something almost functionally identical, and quite possibly full or nearly full price, to something I can already have on an existing device* then a certain negativity is not unwarranted.

*and could probably previously have had on the current device but with backwards compatibility a thing of the past...

You know that is like saying it's ok to rob a bank as long as you pay to fill your car with gas and pay for bullets for your gun.

If you're a pirate and don't regret it then you wouldn't try to make that justification.

The reason to sell is you'll never play them again. Cash is worth something to you. Games you'll never play again are worthless to you and are worth something to people who buy them.
Try to buy physical where possible because it's the same price usually and physical has resale value where download does not. Because physical has resale value it's cheaper than downloads.
