Hacking So with the new NFIRM downgrade exploit coming out soon, does that mean I wasted money on a hardmod?

So in about mid September, I sent my 3DS in to be hardmodded. The hardmodder didnt offer permanent mods for o3DS, just a downgrade and install of ARM9Loader and stuff. The common knowledge was that this would be worth it because there was no news on anyway to downgrade from 11.0. Because of multiple reasons, I ended up spending $100+ in total, just to come back to GBAtemp and see that now there's a way to downgrade without another 3DS or a hardmod which is coming out "soon." I have two 3DS and the one I wanted to hack was on 11.1.0 so it would have been perfect.
Does that mean that I really just wasted all that money or am I just overlooking something? This is seriously irritating. Did this happen to anyone else?

You didn't (Only read title)
Hardmods make your 3ds safer and the nfirm exploit could be unstable and crash and brick your 3ds. With a hardmod you can reflash your nand backup and youll be good.
You can even unbrick things that a9lh can't

Though it might have been a waste since you have a second exploited 3ds.

That makes me feel a bit better. Although of COURSE the only hardmodder I could find in the USA didnt offer permanent hardmods for and o3DS, just a downgrade and a CFW install. My other 3DS wasnt exploited at the time, but Im planning to hack it with a DSIware transfer, so I guess my hardmod came in handy?

Yes it did. The dsi hack only works with a cfwed 3ds and a unhacked one.

I always consider this kind of cost to be: "you paid extra so you get to enjoy it right away"
The new method might be almost free, but is it worth the wait?

Interesting perspective! Possibly, but do we know what "soon" means? Like a few weeks, a month, next year, etc?

i think you're lucky to have a hardmodded console, should anything happen you are safe..so for me i think it's worth it plus that "Soon" might take a while..

^ This. Having hardmod (or any option) is never a negative thing

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

Because of multiple reasons, I ended up spending $100+

However, if that was the price you paid for a hardmod and an homebrew exploit, you got cheated...

Huh, from the OP's post it was a temporary hardmode. As in, the person installs a hardmode, uses it to downgrade the firmware, installs A9LH, then removes the hardmode before sending the 3DS back.

What happened was that I stupidly tried to do it myself and ended up busting it. I contacted a guy and he said he would repair it and mod it for $75. Plus $10 for shipping with insurance, and then it turns out I ruined the motherboard, the guy had a spare and sold it to me for $20.

Who knows. I bought one of the last couple 6.0 Mario Kart 2ds in stock and Dsiware downgraded my n3dsxl. I did pay 80 extra for it, but in return, I don't even care about when that new method will come.

Which reminds me that I have an extra download code for Mario Kart 7 that came with the 2ds(I already have the cartridge). Let me know if you want it.

Yep, I was actually planning on doing that until I realized just how rare they were. Then my cousin got one that his parents were saving for his birthday but of course he updated it -_-

(also Ive been wanting to play Mario Kart 7 for awhile and I would love that code if youre willing to part with it :3 )

He said he didnt offer permanent mods on the o3DS because the CLK point to solder to is really, really tiny and hard to solder to (which I can personally confirm) and it falls off really easily.

Thanks a ton man! :D

It doesn't "fall off easily" if you know how to solder. That's the dumbest thing I've ever heard.

You got what you paid for so no...honestly there was little to no reason to "remove" the wires for the hardmod though. Seems kind of sketchy.
