Basically, I fucked my 2ds up. The screen is broken completely and I dont want to pay 60$ plus hours to try and change the screen myself. I still have the warranty and set up a repair with Nintendo Store. My question is, what can I do to make sure they don't know I had a9lh installed? I can get into the recovery mode to force an update but since the screen is completely worn out, I don't know where on the screen are the buttons to press.

Just send it in, it's not illegal to install arm9loaderhax, and even if it was you could just say that must have happened when you lent it to a mate.

Worst scenario, you get it back fixed with latest firmware. You could just sell it on ebay as a mint condition 3DS.

Anything that bypasses DRM (like a9lh + CFW) is illegal. This of course depends on where you live, I only know about here in USA. I don't think Nintendo would send lawers after you, its bad publicity, but don't be suprised if they replace your NAND and remove a9lh.

Yeah but will the recovery boot update completely remove any trace of hb and a9lh? I'll back my sd card contents up and format it. If they send it back with 11.1 I'll just use the dsiware method to downgrade again.

I know back in the Wii days, they'd just send the console back if they found any kind of modification, so be prepared for that. I'd imagine that's the worst case scenario really.

I don't think so. I think the only way to remove a9lh would be update using a CFW that doesn't have firm protection, or use decrypt9 to restore a NAND backup from before you had a9lh. Someone please correct me if I am mistaken.

Why not just install the new SD-less version of AW A9LH, format system, inject arm9loaderhax.bin into CTRNAND root? Boom, it will behave as a stock 2ds to the untrained eye (only giveaway is to press select at startup).

Then do a nand backup and copy the sdmc:/Nintendo 3DS folder to your pc. It will look and behave as it is a brand new 2ds (except for the broken screen of course), will boot without SD card (in case they test things), etc...

Then when you get it back (contingent on them not having replaced the motherboard or reflashed the nand), add decrypt9 to sdmc/luma/payloads, re-config A9LH, and restore NAND backup, finally copy "Nintendo 3DS" back to root of SD card. Voila, like new!

bear in mind warranty doesn't cover things like broken screens (unless it was a specific defect) you will still probably have to pay for the repair

How sure are we that they don't update through recovery mode tho?

If you have Luma3ds on root of CTRNAND, it shouldn't matter because it has firm protection, right? In theory the new A9LH basically installs the full CFW into the NAND. I wonder now though if recovery mode bypasses this. Honestly tho, not much to lose here, if that doesn't protect it, then nothing really will.

Yeah I wonder too, I've searched all over gbatemp and couldn't find anything about recovery mode bypassing it(which I hope it does)
Pretty sure they'll update it, tbh.
Its sure that they will, we just don't know whether they do it by system settings or recovery mode.

If they update and you have A9LH+Luma on the NAND, how does it matter?
They might just send in a new console/motherboard as well, not to mention they're able to unbrick bricked 3DS consoles. If they want to update it, they can and will.

How about neither? They might update it in some other way. They can update bricked consoles, correct? They are definitely able to find and remove A9LH if they find it and if they're willing to bother.

They wont change both my screen AND mobo for 40$ lmao.
Not so sure about that tbh. They don't really need to do anyway, do they? I assume they don't update every system via Settings nor Recovery Mode tbh.

We all agree that they will update, it's just by what means. If they use recovery mode or the 2DS firmware to update she is good. If they flash a nand via another hardware or replace the motherboard then yeah it will be un-hacked.

The way I see it:
If you do nothing, 100% you will end up on 11.1 un-hacked.
If you at least go this route, then there is a 50/50 chance you may get back a A9LH console on 11.1 SysNAND.

Huh, even so. I think updating through Settings/Recovery would be way too inefficient thinking about how many they must have to do so. Could they not just install the firmware like they do the first time?
