So after reading some recent posts about A9LH and going through the guide multiple times, I think I'm going to get it set up on my N3DS after all, but I am wondering if I actually have to take out the micro SD card or if I can simply use the micro SD management app. I have the cia version of it so I'm not going to be booting to sysNAND and risk messing something up. I just want to know if I can do this for the duration of the tutorial. If I can't then that's fine, but it's always such a pain removing the card lol.

I just kept the back plates off the whole time, I would not trust ftp type programs not to corrupt some file.

Just make sure if you do it like I did without the backplate to place it down on a counter safely BEFORE starting the downgrade. You don't want to start it then be too scared to put it down in case the battery falls out like me lol

Advice if you super paranoid like me get Teracopy and CRC check every file you move with the verify button.

I actually have had the case off of mine for a few weeks now ever since I got it lol. I'm waiting for my dad to help me put it back on but if I plan to do this then I should hold off on it. My N3DS is already running CFW so I don't really have to worry about downgrading thankfully.

I did mine with my Anker card reader and tape holding the battery into the slot.

I discovered when doing a few things that there's a few files I can't mess with in the mSD manager, I had to take out the SD card and put it in my PC in order to edit them.

Personally there isnt a need to take the sd card out any longer. With Ciangel you can just download your games unless you prefer gateway which doesnt need the sd card out anyways. And i use ftp for small files such as updates for payloads and such. The only reason i take my sd card out is to move nand backups over and thats about it.

She was asking about whether it's a bad idea to use MicroSD Management while setting up A9LH...

Anyway, I would say that it is. Take out the microSD, and use a good adapter for it.

Not trying to be a dick but if you cant manage to screw in two Philip heads that fall into place im very confident you will mess up a 3 hour ordeal that requires attention to minor details.
I can probably do it but I'm visually impaired. I only have vision in one eye so trying to see those screws is difficult for me. I've never used a screwdriver before honestly, and I'm afraid I might not do it right. My dad even had a hard time getting the plate to come off the 3DS so I'm sure it would have been even harder for me. I'm not trying to make excuses for myself I'm just telling you why it would be a lot harder for me since I have bad eyesight and nothing seems to fix it.

Don't worry, I had a friggin hard time getting the back plate off my N3DSXL for the first time as well.

You'll be fine installing A9LH as long as you read the guide. Read over it in detail a few times before you start, and while you're doing it, read each step two or three times, and triple check that you're following each and every step to the letter and that you have the right files at each point in performing the installation.

I'm sure that close to 99.99% of all bricks from installing A9LH come from user error, and that is because a lot of people don't read the guide as well as they should and go off and do their own thing. Do exactly what the guide says, and if you have any issues or questions at all, just ask here; you really shouldn't try to solve issues yourself.

As for your main question, take out the microSD and use a good and reliable adapter for it. Don't use MicroSD Management.

Welp then go for it :mthr: but the plate is very easy to remove just turn the screws left until you hear them click then lift the plate off from the sides using your nails with force and to tighten the plate screw normally until there is slight resistance so you don't strip or pop the plate.

Part of the process of installing A9LH is downgrading to 2.X to get the OTP, regardless of whether or not you can already run CFW.

Anyway, yeah there's really no reason why you shouldn't just take out the mSD and do all the file management on your computer. Not only is it safer but I find it a lot easier than fiddling around with a network drive. Also I'd worry about editing privileges for certain files being revoked by Nintendo.

Alright, I'll just take the SD card out then. And I'm going to use that AGE add on for Google Chrome to help me keep track of where I left off if I decide to do it.

Another bit of advice do everything on a fresh format and move files around using Teracopy to very them with a CRC check and lastly backup your saves with JKSV before starting.

Also make sure you have at a minimum 3 hours of time where you wont be bothered.

Okay! I'm pretty sure I can do it for three hours. And I'll make sure to read the guide carefully. It would be bad if I messed up my N3DS. I'm reading here how other people got bricked and it makes me cringe inside. :/

You can get the back plate on and off by feel alone. To put the backplate back on, it snaps on, and you can feel the screws with your fingers, and then use a finger nail to work out what angle the slot is at. Then you can feel the end of the screwdriver between finger and thumb, and aim it at the slot and move it around a millimetre at a time until it falls into the slot. Then turn to the right until you feel a little bit of resistance. To take it off, feel the screw with a finger and find the direction of the slot with a finger nail, feel end of screwdriver between finger and thumb and aim it at the slot, move it around a millimetre at a time until it falls into the slot, and turn to the left until you hear a click. To lift up the back plate, feel along the edge of the back plate near the L/R buttons to find the cut out sections. Have the console with the back facing up and put the poky part at the end of the stylus into the cut out part with the round part facing down. Hold the console with your thumb above the cut out part, your middle finger underneath and your index finger/palm holding the stylus. Lever the stylus down, which will make the backplate pop up. Same on other side. Hold both cut out parts and lift up.

Hello again! I see you have decided to make the jump to greatness, lol. If you would like some personal 1 on 1 help, go to the chatroom in my sig. I'm off work Tues, Wed, Sat, and Sun this week and would be willing to help walk you through the process if you're nervous about messing something up, so long as I have the time.
