the clock+l2 if you have n3ds only games as without that they will run like ass. if you just want to do o3ds games try each one and see what works best. some games hate it

N3ds games run just fine with it set to off, or at least they should.

Yes though it isn't really overclocking as the n3ds is designed to run at that speed, it is more a matter of disabling the underclocking. Also, there are four different options, off (stock behavior), clock (increases CPU speed), enable L2 cache, and both (clock+l2). For SNES vc to work it must either be set to off or clock+l2. However there is at least one game that will crash if you choose the clock+l2 option.

For normal 3ds games clock is the right feature though right?

run an snes game with just clock or just l2. it runs like ass. you either need the setting all the way off or all the way on

Yes, that is correct. However the post I replied to said that it would run like ass without clock+l2 which is not the case since off works just fine.

For most normal 3ds games clock+l2 is the right feature. However there is a sonic racing game will crash with clock+l2 but works with all the others. Basically, keep it on clock+l2 unless a game doesn't work properly or keeps crashing, then try other options. Note that increasing the clock speed with either clock or clock+l2 will make the battery drain faster.

So i have the money, and i am considering buying a new 3ds xl. Is it worth the upgrade?
It entirely depends on what you intend to do with it. If you enjoy playing games in 3D, or want to play the new SNES VC games/N3DS exclusive titles (not many at the moment, and doesn't look like there will be many to come), or if you want to soft-mod it and make screen recordings without shelling out for an expensive capture card, go for it.

However, if you rarely use 3D, don't care about exclusives/buillt-in Amiibo readers or any other new N3DS-only features, there's not much point in upgrading. As mentioned before, it doesn't give you any higher screen resolution and your current 3DS games will play the same with no enhancements (with the exception of a few). The N3DS is faster, but speed alone isn't worth the upgrade. The N3DS is one of those "nice to have" things but not essential if you're already happy with your current 3DS. It's evolutionary, but not revolutionary.

I would not upgrade from O3DS to the new One. Instead of that you should wait cause next year Nintendo is going to release the new NX including a new handheld....so one year later you had to upgrade again...

i say if(since) you actually have the bucks , then by all means go for it.

it is a better piece of hardware over the og3ds.
i have both ogsmall/XL and a n3dsxl i love them all 3 equally , the 3ds has become my favourite gaming handheld.

you get the C-stick with the n3ds which is cool for certain games (no need for that circble pad pro thingie) and also the 3d effect is fantastic on the n3ds.

if you like using 3d, you will love the 3d on n3ds i personally rarely use 3d , and the build quality of the n3ds is pretty good except i am not a big fan of the backscrews ,you will need to unscrew to get access to your mSD slot (no big deal, but be careful with it as i actually wrecked one of my screws by opening it up too often LOL) .

finally (since) you have the bucks to spend on a n3ds ,i say go for it.
cheers.

this is also a very good answer, let me also add one more thing, if your current 3ds is in like very good shape etc. then keep it, but if you have had it for over a year or so (and it might have shown some wear and scuffs? depending on how and who used it) then maybe it would be good to upgrade.

it is still an upgrade over the og imo.
'cause you do get extras ,if those extras are worth it in your opinion then do not wait any longer and get a n3ds xl :3

I did because it makes everything on it alot better........and I am not one of those people that will fanboy something until I die and I think it is safe to say that the upgrade was worth it.
The faster you get it the higher the chance that it will not be on 11.0

A N3DS is worth it, my uncle has a O3DS and the performance is noticeable, how should i put it aesthetics wise the O3DS feels a bit "tacky" wheres the N3DS has a really nice design also the hinge is MUCH better, hardware wise is also worth it considering it uses MicroSD so no more big fat SD cards, ZL and ZR come in handy specially for Resident Evil and other games, the performance is also noticeable as on some games the O3DS runs some games with alot of stuttering and lag whereas the N3DS lag is almost a non-existent word, really would recommend it, the super stable 3D is also good as the O3DS will give you a bloody pain in the neck after pro-longed playing.

Also Nintendo doesn't use the latest technology because it would make the consoles really expensive , who here is gonna pay £300+ for a console, Sony does it with the playstation series as it is really popular whereas Nintendo isn't the best thanks to the WII and WII U "failure" , also they may not use the latest technology because at this rate technology is on a rapid evolution not to mention that Nintendo may also be precautions that if the console doesn't sell well they have just spent a couple of hundred pounds on designing, manufacturing and selling a console that was crap.

From using Google. It is said that at that time the new console namend NX will be released. And with that a new handheld is going to be released which could be used as a part of the NX.
Oh, cool! Sounds like what the Vita was supposed to be with the PS3 before Sony abandoned the thing.

Then you can keep staying at your 3DS while other people are using the new handheld ;)
