The only reason I bought mine was because X & Y had just been announced and I needed a Pokemon machine. It was handy that a friend of mine had just upgraded to the XL and I was able to buy their old one for $100.

I got a new 3ds back in may and while I use it a lot, I still probably would have been just fine staying with my old one. It really doesn't do much extra other than play a Xenoblade port and add the C stick without a big adapter to plug it into Oh, and amiibos. Honestly, the best thing to me is the way it supports wifi transfers to the sd card, so I can just leave it in and not take it out (big pain with how it's hidden under the back cover)
