An Undertale port would actually be possible. :rofl2:
It definitely is with a bit of DETERMINATION.

I started with porting the Game Maker: Studio engine to 3DS, as that's what Undertale was based off of, then I said a bad pun, put Undertale's data.win in there, drew rule 34 of Toriel playing 3DS, and then viola, I got Undertale 2: Electric Boogaloo, on 3DS.

the sad thing is is that now it is HARD to find p64 roms since nintendo set their foot down on a lot of rom sites. the last ones i currently own are majora's mask, Ocarina of time, Conker's bad fur day, and Paper mario. for the dolphin emulator i only have paper mario thousand year door, on ds emulator i have phantom hourglass and spirit tracks.

P64? What? I've only seen N64 ROMs come in V64, Z64, N64, BIN, and country acronym formats.

p64 a.k.a Project 64 was a emulator from coolroms it has smooth playing even on a OLD 1999 pc. (i tried.) it was a heck of a emulator back in the day as it had controller settings, the ability to add cheats/codes from any form of devices like gamechark,ar,ectra it also allowed 8 save points and communication between another emu of it on a diff pc. but after the "Banish hammer" nintendo did, it has rendered p64 ultimately useless as all the roms for it were taken down.. this is p64 in original.

Possible? Of course. Playable, though? Considering N64 emulation isn't deemed good enough even on desktops, I'd say nah. Unless someone has a very good understanding of the N64 hardware and decides to make a very well optimized emulator for the 3DS, it probably won't happen. It's feasible, I guess, and something I've been dreaming of(imagine playing N64 games... IN 3D) since the 3DS' release, but most likely isn't going to happen.
N64 emulation works good on windows. I have a laptop with a 5 year old processor and I still get a solid 60 fps on most games.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

It would be a lot of fun playing some of the classic N64 games on this system. Is the (New) 3DS capable of emulating the system? Now, with the Circle Pad Pro, and the New 3DS we do have enough buttons for it. I know there are ports of a couple of games already, but emulating the system would open up a whole ton of new stuff to play with.
Considering that even mGBA still doesn't run perfectly on N3DS, I'm pretty sure that N64 emu is never going to happen.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I don't think a N64 is comparable to a Wii, the wii is underpowered as hell but it isn't that underpowered.

The N3DS (not the o3ds) might, might be able to run N64 games. Do not quote me on that, I don't know the lowest clock speed you need in order to emulate a N64 well (some phones do it quite well). I can't even imagine the o3ds doing n64 emulation considering it still has trouble with gba/snes games without dynarec.

Edit:
I noticed someone reference PSP n64 emulation. The PSP does have a higher clock speed than the N3ds (for whatever reason), but it isn't that comparable since it's a microprocessor(?) and the N3DS uses arm11. It's also multi-core, but I don't know if that makes a difference in emulation.
Phone processors a really good compared to the N3ds processor.

--------------------- MERGED ---------------------------

I know it's not about hardware. Hell, I have a gaming computer with 8GBs of RAM, and I can't even launch Wii games on it. GameCube games also lag if there's too much shit loaded at once.
RAM barely does shit. The processor is what you need.

That's totally true, but there's an Alpha build of a N64 Emulator for the Raspberry Pi, and it's minimum specs are very similar to the N3DS. Now, this emulator only runs some games, like SM64 and Mario Kart, but it's something I guess. The problem is on a Pi you can build things perfectly for it, whilst on a 3DS you run homebrew without an official SDK, with very limited userland access.

I said it isn't deemed good. I myself haven't had much problem with N64 emulation, but I'm not an avid gamer and would only play some titles(OoT3D, SM64, etc.). I've heard a bunch of people complain about the state of N64 emulation and how people don't care enough about it to improve it. (Note this reddit thread from around 1 year ago https://www.reddit.com/r/emulation/comments/2lwnbf/why_is_nintendo_64_emulation_so_bad_still/)

Other n64 games that have no 3DS or DS remake can be remade as homebrew.
Yeah. Sure. Not only do we lack the SDK necessary for this, Nintendo would shit in a sock and ram a legal boot up anybody trying to release it. This has already happened with a lot of people trying to release fanmade remakes.

It is possible if you get OoT3D, SM64DS, MM3D, and any other n64 game with a 3DS remake. Other n64 games that have no 3DS or DS remake can be remade as homebrew.

You don't seem to understand the problem here, those games were made SPECIFICALLY for the 3DS, and they have full access to optimize said games.
The point we are trying to make is that we can only emulate the games, so its running games that weren't even optimized for this hardware.

And now the truth: We do not have the means to instantaneously create a way to play N64 games at any where CLOSE...to playable speed.

depends if someone wants to take a stab at hammering out something like the old corn emulator, where HUGE amounts of accuracy were thrown out to get playable speeds on low end hardware. Problem is, I don't believe this emulator is open source, so something like this would have to be started completely from scratch, which I don't foresee anyone trying to take a stab at for (maybe) a couple of reasonably playable games. This would also be a large undertaking, that could take months, if not years to get up and running. Although this is still POSSIBLE, I really don't know that anyone would be interested enough in an undertaking of that magnitude knowing that at best, we'd end up with a handful of usable games.

Each N3DS core is 268 MHz and it's quad-core, it's only 800 MHz when you combine them, but I don't think that's how you display cpu clock speed on multiple core CPU's.

Nope each core can reach the frequency of 804MHz. https://www.3dbrew.org/wiki/Hardware

N3DS is beasty, but sadly not enough devs are going to take advantage of it at this point of the life cycle, with NX handheld on its way as well.

The PSP version died a long time ago because the PSP died a long time ago. It's open source, so someone could still improve upon it, but nobody cares to since the system is pretty much irrelevant now.

Ummm......no.

Maybe you think the PSP is dead/irrelevant, but is actually still hugely popular with retro-gamers. Highlights include near perfect native PS1 emulation, excellent NEO GEO AVS/MVS emulation and various fantastic arcade emulators - the CPS2 emu is outstanding. Check out what a PSP Go will cost you on eBay these days.

Sadly, probably not.

I'd personally rather devs that are capable of something like this use their time towards something that's a little more...functional personally, but that being said, it's certainly their time, and they can build out whatever the heck they so choose to.

1: 6.61 was a pointless release that allowed online functionality for a very small handful of games, and came out two or so years ago. Woopty fucking doo. 6.60 PRO suffices.
2: PSX games have practically ran perfectly native as EBOOTS for years. I have yet to find a game that didn't run fine with POPS. (Oh no, muh save file icon.)
3: Fuck a Go. I have a Slim TA-88 v1. Even if Pandora isn't a necessity anymore, the ability to create one totally adds more value in my book.
4: Capcom and NeoGeo. Neat. Please show me Daedalus progress since it's more relevant to this thread, and that's what I was referring to.
5: Endless Paradigm OG reporting in. Irrelevant, but I know the PSP.

I rather enjoy a life of taking it easy. I haven't reached that life yet though.
