Hacking Why has USBLoaderGX just stopped detecting games, but WiiFlow still works?

My Wii U has had its vWii modded for some time and I've successfully booted games from my y-cable supported hdd using USBLoaderGX several times over the past year or so.

All of a sudden it's stopped detecting my games. USBLoaderGX still loads, and detects the hdd, but doesn't detect any games on it.

So I installed WiiFlow alongside it and WiiFlow works fine - games detected and loading without problem.

I'd changed nothing on my vWii, the only thing that I can figure caused USBLoader to f-up was my Wii U auto-updating to 5.5.1E...?

be sure you have the games enabled
top menu > 4th icon > Wii or gamecube or RealNAND or EmuNAND

if it's not that, then it's maybe a wrong path in the settings, or wrong folder naming?
But I think it should be the 4th icon. It might just have disabled Wii a day the USB wasn't detected and it disabled Wii and gamecube.
Maybe I'll modify that to keep Wii even if there's no Wii game to load.

I had tried that, but didn't appreciate its significance:

When I select that the 'select titles sources' box comes up and the 'Wii Games' box is unchecked. But when I check it and press 'OK' I get "Error: USB Device not initialized. Switching to channel list mode." My hdd light is on and appears normal, so I don't know what to do to resolve. WiiFlow is still working without changing anything.

USBLoaderGX wasn't working (as described) so I updated to the latest version - no change.

you said it found the drive, but it didn't.
if it tells you it's not initiated you can force it manually by going to the settings>hdd settings>click on the first option
but if it couldn't init the drive at launch, there's some chance it won't work either now.

you probably have the same issue than lot of users described on vWii :
- hdd is Western Digitial USB 3.0 ?
- hdd works only if you connect it when you see the countdown screen

you can try to fix it by setting the loader's IOS to 58 in the loader's settings.
it will boot and detect the drive, but I can't promise it will reload to cIOS and find the drive correctly when launching a game.

I'll check that issue when I have time, I bought a WD 3.0 to see what's really happening with these drives.

Thanks for taking interest in my issue, Cyan.

My hdd is branded 'Intenso', but it is a USB 3.0 drive.

Reason I said it detected the drive is because, at least once, I saw it was reporting the space on the drive, even though it wasn't showing the games.

I tried clicking the 1st option in hdd settings, but it wouldn't let me. HOWEVER, I then tried resetting to default settings and it returned to the main screen and it was now showing nothing (none of the vWii Menu forwarders that it had been showing pre-reset). I then relaunched USBGX and everything was back to normal - all my games are showing now! :)

But I still don't know why it stopped working in the first place...

Anyway, thanks for your support - USBLoaderGX is my favourite loader (only thing it seems to lack that I like on WiiFlow is the clicking on the box to rotate the box from front cover to back cover) and I really appreciate the continued support you give it

it's included.
point to a game and press 1 (or 2) on the wiimote to display the game info window.
if you downloaded the "full HD cover" you will see a 3D cover box that you can grab/rotate/zoom.

Sweet - I like it, especially the 3D rotation. I need to find me a comprehensive manual for this thing as there's a lot of settings I have no idea about, and I still haven't managed to find how to return to USBLoader from within a game.

Thanks a lot for your work and your help.

@SylverReZ, atleast wiimmfii went fine although people only use it for Mario kart Wii

At least if they ban you for cheating, get another Wii. They're cheap as chips.

Remember when RiiShop was a thing?
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
    not really
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
It got shutdown because somebody "accidentally" leaked the database for the amount of people using the beta.

RiiShop is the laziest way of downloading Wii games. Did somebody not think of this through?
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
although i ended up accidentally changing my nand with no way of going back bc i didn't know you needed a gamecube controller to restore it (i have a wii minus/1.1, which doesn't have gamecube controller support)
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@BakerMan, I think you're talking about the recovery mode that the SaveMii used, and also was to restore softbricked systems.
  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
If your NAND was hardbricked, then just buy another Wii. Or go with the dirty NAND flasher method.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
and if i find the sd card i have my NAND backed up on, i can not only restore the NAND if i solder the right part in, but i can also put my NAND on dolphin, then i can play dolphin online, like PMEX Remix or MKWii Riibalanced

  • SylverReZ @ SylverReZ:
@BakerMan, Oh yeah, that was a thing too. Dolphin does support Wiimmfi.
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
yeah you just need to put your NAND backup with wiimmfi on it
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
ngl i feel like if a bunch of my friends have wiis and know how to get wiimmfi and back up their NAND, then we could do a PMEX Remix tournament
  • BakerMan @ BakerMan:
maybe even add UMVC3/DBFZ and make it a biathlon/triathlon
