Sorry, perhaps I wasn't clear enough. Only card1 type games (those that save to an EEPROM chip) were broken, Pokemon XY/ORAS are card2 type games (card2 games save to a writable portion of the ROM itself).

Oh I know the Pokemon games are card2, but from your post it seemed like you meant all physical carts and card1 roms.
Anyhow thanks, I actually remember importing with sdf my physical copy of DKCR3D and then exporting it to a .3ds rom. There was no error, but for some reason it didn't write the save to the rom, even though it said it did. Good that they've fixed it now.

can lead to bricking.
Ironic, Gateway themselves warning about potential bricks.
And tbh they're kind of shooting themselves in the foot by only offering a downgrade solution, since anyone who wants to downgrade already can without buying their hardware.
But it begs the question; what exploit were SALT using in their video that showed off 10.3 sysNAND kernel access?

You could downgrade to 4.5 without their hardware when they released their old downgrader.

And at the time, the only available CFWs (all minor edits of the leaked one from yellows8/profi/derrek) were unreliable and, compared to what GW offered at the time, limited (in particular by the 7.x crypto), so there was decent reason to want a GW card. Now, Cakes, ReiNAND and rxTools can do at least as much as GW, more if used with NTR, they've lost any real selling power.

I agree. If I didn't have one since the days when Gateway was the only way to play roms, I wouldn't buy one now. The only downside to the free options is installing every game to home menu but considering the price difference it's worth it. I'm just still shocked at how far they've come since the days of one game per microsd and no region free or firmware spoofing. I know a lot of the stuff they implemented is from other devs but when I got this thing I never imagined how much it would evolve and still use the same cart.

That's why they spent months on that stupid cheat engine instead of giving people a way to boot GW on 9.2 without an internet connection, so they have something the others don't. Good thing they released the GW.3dsx at some point because I care a lot less about cheats than about compatibility between my O3DS and my N3DS (which they fixed too at some point).
And now, maybe they won't make a downgrade utility but a GW solution on 10.3 ? That would give them an argument (not necessarily a strong one since people are supposed to be able to downgrade but still) compared to other CFWs.

huh? you do know that *hax still requires an internet connection initially, right? also after you setup the downgraded MSET, you never had to use internet ever.

Any hax requires an internet connection so your complaint is pretty much useless.
Im really curious at what point did they say that the new compatibility is 10.3 exclusive? Heres a quote:
We will be bringing Gateway support to systems that are on the current LATEST FIRMWARE: 10.3 and lower.

I obviously meant "an internet connection every single time". I don't want to have to use browserhax everytime I want to use my 3DS. Menuhax however (even if it needs an internet connection to be setup (and that's not even true)) is fine, and MSET too.

And the problem with MSET is that it needed a downgrade to 4.X, which made games (retail carts) incompatible with my New 3DS, as I said in my other post.

Which? never heard about that before..
GW used to use the sysNAND key to encrypt save games, even on emuNAND. And since their solution used to be "downgrade O3DS to 4.5, downgrade MSET on 9.0-9.2 N3DS", then you had new keys on N3DS and old ones on O3DS. Which made you be able to play a game on a N3DS or a O3DS but not both.
Problem fixed, as I said (GW mode on emuNAND now supports retail carts and both encryptions), but only after that cheat engine.
