May I recommend you take a look at Crystal the Glaceon's thread? That has a couple of really nice homebrew suggestions that may interest you. Highlights include the Retroarch emulators (though not all run at full speed on an Original 3DS, there is a good NES and Genesis emulator there), and Masher's excellent Grid Homebrew Launcher.

Not included on the list, but I'd also recommend Whackmania for the 3DS. It's a rather high quality little Whack-A-Mole game originally designed for iOS and Android platforms, but the author was nice enough to port it to the 3DS and it's quality astounds me.

...Aaaand that's pretty much all I can think of at the moment.

This is also all assuming you have *hax 2.5 already installed.

I should add that Whackmania seems to be slightly bugged in Masher's Grid Homebrew Launcher. If you put it in another folder besides the usual "3ds" folder, then it seems to fail to start. Using the button combo to get back to the Homebrew Launcher also seems to crash it.

A couple of other suggestions that just hit me:
Doom - A classic FPS that's a lot of fun to play. Somebody developed a rather nice 3DS port a while back. What's worth noting is that it has some pretty neat-o 3D support. Even if you don't own the full game, you can download the shareware version and have yourself a nice time. Shouldn't be terribly hard to install.

Quake - A pretty well done port created by MasterFiezz. Runs great on my New 3DS and I haven't seen many complaints about how it runs on the Original 3DS. Might be worth a shot? It comes with a shareware version so you can play through a nice little game if you don't own the full release. The same guy who did this port also made a Duke Nukem 3D port. Chances are it won't run very well, but if you're willing to experiment it might be worth a try.

Snake - Pretty fun time killer. I haven't tried this release but rather another recreation of the game done by somebody else, but it's still essentially Snake and I find it to be a fun time waster.

DrawAttack - Haven't tried this one yet, but the concept seems pretty interesting.

World of 3DSand - A pretty cool World of Sand clone. A pretty fun game to randomly doodle in.

Alright, now I'm out of ideas for real.

@AncientBoi, Yeah, believe you can do PSP games as well. But a Pi5 is much powerful in comparison.

Not sure about other models of Pi4 but the Pi 4 B with 8GBs OCed to 2Ghz handles PSP really great except like 1 game I found and it is playable it just looks bad lol Motor Storm Arctic something or other.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Other games I can have turned up to like 2X and all kinds of enhancements, Motorstorm hmmm nope 1X and no enhancements lol

Waiting for Anbernic's rg[whatever]SP price announcement, gimme.

I will admit that one does seem more interesting than the usual Ambernic ones, and I already liked those.

    I dread the price point.

  • Veho @ Veho:
This looks like one of their premium models, so... $150 :glare:

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    To me that seems reasonable.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I mean since basically all the games are errmmm free lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah it's all choice and that's a good thing :)
