The 007-2001 err code still shows up on my N3DS (9.9) though.
Just to make sure, try opening System Settings with HANS, and make sure that the region and language you set it to is correct. I had that exact code for a little while because I tried to see if I could make my N3DS japanese.

Has anyone been able to access the eShop within a 3DS game? I'm still trying to figure out if this is possible.

Oh, so I'm not the only one who tried that... :P
Anyway, just opened the Settings with the "normal" config (EUR, EN, and everything else disabled), still doesn't work... :/

I don't think so.Neither have I regretted staying on 9.9. I think Smea can fix this.

Did you go into Other Settings->Profile->Region Settings and change that?
Oh, so it changes itself automatically?? I never thought launching System Setting with JPN on did anything, since it got stuck on a yellow screen...
Anyway, thank you for the help!
The thing is, now, the error is not 007-2001 anymore, but it asks me to read the ToS... How can I do that?

Whilst there is maintenance going on, where's your evidence that spoof will be patched? Other people have been using eshop spoofs for ages, why do they do it now. Additionally, all nintendo shopping services will be down... so... unless they have to patch a spoof on all of their systems... nah.

Piracy is a very low priority for nintendo, work will be 99% on other things, then perhaps 1% on thinking about patching a exploit.

They can only really patch eShop access together with a new firmware, not just via maintenance.

Should be easy to patch, actually. Just include some kind of firmware functionality in 10.3 to return some kind of value from the crypto-engine that's unique to your 3DS and NNID and seed it by a value that the Nintendo servers send you when trying to access the eShop. Make the eShop app send that calculated value back to the servers, if it's invalid, deny access.

Without updating firmware to get it to calc these new values (which use kernel services), no more shop access.

Heh.

The system firmware check should occur before the eshop communicates with its servers. If they do update the protocol then yes firmware spoofing would be useless. This could theoretically be worked around by patching the code binary with HANS but even then all Nintendo has to do is update the OS to add a kernel-mode check that can bypass that. It would require cryptographic checks with a remote server to make sure it's not spoofed. If people don't update their firmware then they won't be able to pass on that check.

I don't fully understand what you mean. And yes, Nintendo can easily update the OS, but we aren't forced to update. What I'm trying to get at is that if they change the way their servers work, they need to make sure that if I bought a 3DS that has Firmware Version 1.0, they would still have to be able to support it. Lol.

They fully support it, on the latest firmware. If you call in saying you have an issue, they will tell you to update as a first step.

@SylverReZ if you could find a v5 DS ML you would have the best of both worlds since the v5 units had the same backlight brightness levels as the DS Lite unlockable with flashme

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

if i didn't want my games to be permanent, then i'd rent them

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space
