I recently dropped my 3DS but it survived. I have been playing Animal Crossing for nearly a year now and have suddenly started wondering about how to transfer my save game to a new system.

ACNL is installed on Gateway emunand 9.9 from a CIA. I created the CIA from the cartridge which I haven't touched in about a year. I'm thinking the most bullet-proof backup is to get the save data into the cart.

What is the easiest way to get my save game into the cart so that I can visit my town on any 3DS unit?

I have Save Data Filer installed in emunand, but I have not used it because it looks really confusing.

I don't mind jumping through some hoops here, since this is something I might do only once a month. I mean, not that much changes in a single day in AC.

If emunand to cart is imposssible, what about transferring from one GW emunand system to another (same versions)?

You should firstly use SDF to export your save file then inject it into your cart using CFW or Ninjhax.

Why do you say that SDF is confusing? You only need to find the title id for your game in order to export the save. If you're in North America region that id should be 0004000000086300. SDF will only show last few digits of it though.

After you export the save you can choose to use NTR CFW with save tool plugin (https://gbatemp.net/threads/release-savegame-manager-plugin-for-ntr-1-0-2-0.384865/) or Ninjhax/ Tubehax/ Ironhax savegame manager (http://gbatemp.net/threads/tutorial-backing-up-and-editing-saves-using-ironhax-tubehax.396379/) to write that data back into the cart.

Actually, since ACNL is a card2 type, he can export his cia save to SD then transfer from SD to "CTR-CARD" directly!

But he's using gateway emunand. He can only load legit carts in classic mode in which SDF can't be launched. If he's using other CFWs with signature patched maybe it'll work in this way.

oh right, totally forgot about that limitation. Ignore me then lol

He can just use the NTR save tool plugin.
-Hold L and launch the cia. Wait for 2 green flashes then let go, and press A
-Exit the game
-Hold R and launch the cartridge. Wait for 2 flashes then let go, and press A
-game should continue to launch with the new save

SDF is confusing because I hadn't yet found the site with the list of crazy huge numbers used to identify the games.

This sounds pretty simple, except I don't know what you're talking about: What's the NTR save tool plugin? Is this part of Gateway or SDF? What's NTR?

You can check on http://3dsdb.com to locate the title id for your game. Check on the links. NTR is a CFW. The newest version is 3.0. you can find it here on Github. https://github.com/44670/BootNTR/releases/tag/3.0beta

By the way, what's your sysnand home menu version?

Not sure I understand what you are asking for.

I have Sysnand is 4.5, Emunand 9.9

I have installed the Bootntr.cia on emunand, with ntr.bin and plugins from the "NTR CFW 3.0 + Save Plugin 1.0" from filetrip.

The first two steps work as expected:
-Hold L and launch the cia. Wait for 2 green flashes then let go, and press A
-Exit the game

What happened during the green flashes? Was the save data copied some place on the SD card?

But I am in GW emunand, I can't launch the cartridge. Do you mean I should reboot in GW Classic mode, launch NTR, insert ACNL, and then hold R while launching the cart?

I'm asking because NTR may not work on sysnand below 9.0. You need to find a way to boot into NTR from your sysnand because you can't have both legit cart and unsigned cia in the same time on gateway. You'll have some trouble if your sysnand is on 4.5.

BTW, about the green flashes. The first one means that the plugin is enabled, while the second one means that the job is done. You should find a folder at the root of your 3ds's sd card with the name of the title id of ACNL. Your save from cia should be there.

Do you have another 3ds with newest sysnand version (anyone with 9.0+ should work). Or you need to try to install another CFW which allows you to run bootntr.cia and game cart in the same time (Reinand / pasta/ rxtools).

Don't bother to use NTR, just setup rxTools, then use sdf to extract the cia save and inject it in the retail cartdridge.

bootntr says: 09090000
yeah that only shows your emunand version since you're using the cia boot method. but since you need to load you cart you need to boot ntr using cubic ninja on 9.0-9.2. If you don't have a copy of CN, your best bet is on rxtools.

Err, too late and it appears successful! My ACNL save from CIA has been copied to the cartridge.

I installed rxtools 2.6 and ntr and followed the instructions having booted GW-created emunand:

-start ntr-cfw
-Hold L and launch the cia. Wait for 2 green flashes then let go, and press A
-Exit the game
-Hold R and launch the cartridge. Wait for 2 flashes then let go, and press A
-game should continue to launch with the new save

This is on preinstalled gateway emunand 9.9, sysnand 4.5
