Thats a hard drive issue. Check and see if r229 works for you. If it does, then you need to either stick with that (if you dont care for the updates since then) or get a new drive (they sell 128GB flash drives on eBay for $14USD if that helps)

Edit: Actually, much cheaper
What does that exactly mean? What is r229? Sorry, I'm not that deep into this. Only a bit.

So my drive got an error and some games do work, some not?

Ehhhh, kind of

Basically, r230 completely changed how games are read from USB. It switched from using... uh... some obscure IOS that I dont remember :shy:, to IOS 58 (which is more "correct", the old version was kind of thrown together). In the process of this switch, compatibility was gained for some drives and lost for others, with no real traceable pattern (there are trends, but they vary A LOT: It seems to be USB 3.0 drives made by Western Digital and Seagate are the main offenders, though). If your drive isnt compatible, then no matter what game you try it should ALWAYS stall at "Initing DI...", and will proceed to freeze.

If the problem persists with r229, then something more involved is going on, but I'm willing to bet thats where the issue lies

Thanks for your kind explanation.

But according to that description NO game should work on my HDD, is that correct? I've played Baten Kaitos Origins now for about 45 hours and it just works fine, among the many I already tested (About 20 or 25 games). Paper Mario was the first game this error happened.

maybe it has to do with the recources the game asks or something becuase on it freezes befoe getting ingame it means nintendont couldnt even read your usb device fully to launch the iso, try the same iso on a small usb flashdrive or sd card.

I'm interested in finding out which drives don't work. Specifically what make/model/size and even serial if possible. I'm going to buy a large drive and want one of these to experiment with.

The only problem is we don't know the best way to compile a list, a wiki maybe?

Most likely all the drives that are not working have the same issue.

I think he's just looking for one confirmed model so that he can deep dive the issue. A list is not necessary. Just someone who's having issue to come forward with the details would be enough.

Maybe author another compatibility list in the same format as the game compatibility list, and just have users manually add drive brands, models, sizes, and whether they work or not?

This would be a good way of at least looking at/comparing data, especially since you could sort them into various things they have in common that way

A good idea methinks, someone should start it, I suck at formatting wiki pages unfortunately.

Basically that's it in a nutshell. I just need a confirmed drive that doesn't work, absolutely, positively does not work.

Theoretically, if more than one person has the same drive, that's even better.

Is it possible to change control mappings? I'm using a Classic Control Pro, but it slightly irks me that B is mapped to A, and X is mapped to Y, and I'm only at the start of Twilight Princess so I'm not even sure what counts as B or Z.

I have tried getting HID-Test and renaming the file involving wii cc pro to "controller" and placing it in the root of the SD card, but it hangs up at "getting HID compatible devices".

thats what happen when you press Select in the classic controller. Press it again and it should fix the button mapping
