Hello people! I created this Thread to unify all possible ways to play PS1 on the WiiU, and create a community chart to document compability between homebrew.

Nowadays, the Options we have for emulating:

vWii WiiSX RX

Link to the WiiSXRX Thread

Retroarch Core - PSX Rearmed Unai Core
Courtesy of Ploggy!

Link to the Retroarch Thread

Link to download the Retroarch Core

And there is the open compability chart i created, so we can document better what games run on each homebrew

Link to the Open PS1 Compability Chart

If there is any more ways to play PS1 on WiiU, i will accept suggestions on the Thread!

The native ps1 emulator on the WIIU will always be better than the WII, not because the WII isn't capable of running well, but I'm saying that after everything is well optimized, the WIIU, having more power, will support more things like using better image filters. What can you do besides more options to fix certain games and controllers support as real psx in adaptar usb and others.

There are a number of emulators that are far better on Wii than Wii U and may always be due to a lack of devs on the Wii U side. And the Wii can support any controller that the Wii U can, with the obvious exception of the GamePad. My New 3DS XL does a better job of emulating PS1 than the Wii U ever has. I sincerely hope that changes.

Does any1 know the best settings for the

PCSX ReARMed Core

I'm struggling to run Destruction derby raw and chrono cross. The audio stutters in the menus for some reason 🤔

Its a separated PS1 core with various improvements, i recommend going to the retroarch thread and getting the most updated cores from there, sinche there is WIP support for Aroma now on Retroarch

Afaic, pro for Wiistation is that wiimotes can act like lightguns, and there is some very fun games using it. And for pcsx rearmed core on wiiu, pros are that you can play ps1 on your bed with the gampad, lying not far from your device, and you can sync dualshock 3, and so playing with the real thing...
I'm not on testing every games, both are using lightrec if I'm right, and both are solid solutions, 1 for wii and 1 for wiiu. But maybe IR support for wiiu RA one day and so on wiiu solution will be the ultimate one.
EDIT: and yeah, scaling looks very nice on wiiu "pixel perfect touch" by hdmi on hd tv, I have to test filters tho.

I think you'll find the WiiU can play PS1 very decently now with the Retroarch Aroma build ;)

----------------------------------------------------------

With the Aroma build (and maybe the Unai build too) If your getting bad Audio, in the Audio Settings Menu switch your Audio Driver to AXPro and set your Audio Sample Rate to 44100, then save a "Core Override" to save this setting (in the Ingame Options Menu) :)

You can tweak the settings to get better performance: in the Ingame Menu - you can disable Dithering (off) and Fast Lighting (on)

Does the crazymac retroarch setup work with this? I'm currently on cold boot hatching aswell would I need to get aroma for this to work or is there anything else I could do to get better performance on my current set up

Most games run but I'm getting the audio issue where its crackling or distorted

In my audio driver it just displays AX and null, no other options are available and I can't seem to find the sample rate setting is this Aroma only?

I've never used the Crazymac build so I couldn't tell you, but it should just be a matter of adjusting the paths?
Really you should think about moving to Aroma, that's where Retroarch is going to be supported in the future and you can always reboot back to Tiramisu when you need to.
As for if there's anything you can do with the current build you have, You can disable Dithering if enabled, that will net you extra FPS in some games.

Hmm, then the Unai build is behind, another reason to move to Aroma :P
The Aroma build has the option to switch to the far better optimised Audio Driver AXPro, but the only downside (for now) is you have to manually set the Sample Rate, but you can set a Core Override so you only really have to do it once :)

Personally, I think Wiistation is definitely better than WiiSX RX for the Wii side. Now to the actual question, at the moment I have better compatibility and performance with Wiistation than with PSX Rearmed, but I think it won't be too long before both are equal.

This one ;) (but it's for Wii/vWii only, but in the guide also show how to make a Wii U Menu forwarder to the vWii homebrew)
https://gbatemp.net/threads/how-to-...ls-of-your-favorite-retro-games-d-wii.602640/
but that would mean, its running in vWii mode...and its still more buttons to press.
Im after a solution where its a wii u channel, and u click it, then we are directly transported to the rom running within whatever emulator. Similiar to what we have on the Nintendo Switch with nsp forwarders
