I have a 3DS at version 9.20(whatever the latest is as of the time of writing). I'm looking into gateway and had a couple of questions.

1) so support is coming for my version(I don't know when), and I was wondering if I could buy the gateway now and somehow update it to support my version when the time comes considering I'm at latest firmware, or do I need 4.1-4.5 firmware to update gateway and have to wait for sellers to do this for me?

I want to beat others to the punch, when the update comes out I figure it'd be out of stock or prices would raise...

2) I want to backup my SMT IV game(keep it all on one cartridge is a huge plus for me), can I somehow get me save on a real cartridge to work on a backed up rom? can I use SMT IV DLC that I purchased?

3) Can I use my real games alongside roms? from what I've seen, there seems to be a split and I'd have to go to one "mode" to play roms and another to play original real cartridges, I also saw them being installed onto the 3DS.

4) I'm from Canada, what would be the best place to order this card(considering trustworthiness, free shipping, cheapest overall price)?

I'm still educating myself on this, so bear with me

1. Yes you can update it later, with your 3ds.
2. You will be able to pirate the dlc (I believe) but you can't keep your save, unless there are new developments in the 3DS scene between now and the release.
3. As of right now its all speculation (since the closest to official confirmation is the video found on their website)
4. I ordered from https://www.modchipcentral.com/ and it got to me pretty fast, and it's an official reseller. Not the cheapest though.

I'm not so sure about that. The exploit is running natively on 9.x so there should be no issues with pre-existing saves.

Thank you, the most important part is being able to buy gateway now(despite no 9.2 support) and being able to use my 9.2 3DS system to update gateway when the time comes.

I'm looking into microSD cards. It also seems like SD cards are relevant for CIA files.

Any recommendations for brand and file size? I'm seeing transcend, sandisk, lexar, kingston here on amazon...I'm not sure the average file size for games, but I think 32GB would be safe...

Really? I didn't think it worked that way, but what do I know?
It does, but there's one potential problem. GW still requires all saves to be 512KB.
Until they fix that, the majority of game saves still can't be transferred between ROM<->cartridge, unless they make SaveDataFiler work with both ;)
Making SaveDataFiler work with it would probably be the easiest, as it would simply take changing a couple parameters so that dev tools can be used in Classic Mode as well as Gateway Mode, and moving around the game loading code so that saves are loaded as soon as a game is picked instead of when it's launched. But we'll see what GW does, I'm sure they will do something about it since it's such a simple change. :)
