Emulators?
I know that it'll do region locking bypassing, but this is my next interest. I know the Wii was able to do N64 and PS1, but I don't think it did PSP.

Psx/n64 might run someday... but it won't be very playable. the very least you need is about double the power of the 3ds.
Something along the lines of the original xbox in terms of performance will be the minimum for playable psx/n64 games.

Therefore it will probably be more like a proof of concept.

Poop. I was hoping to run Spyro PS1 on my 3DS lol.
I guess I'll have to stick with the Vita for that.

Will there be any dangers with connecting online? Can Nintendo brick my console? Or is it too early to tell?

If the PSP struggles with N64 emulation, how the heck is the 3DS going to do it? LOL.

The PSP had a Sony propriety PS1 emulator built in and used to run PS1 games quite well, but a homebrew emulator coded by amateur developers for 3DS, I, personally won't be getting my hopes up for at least another 5 years.

3DS is too weak to emulate 5th generation consoles and beyond (except gbc and gba). But it is powerful enough to emulate 1th-4th generation consoles.

PSP - impossible
N64 - this console is just... ridiculous, it could run, but the speeds would be terrible
PSX - now this I think is possible, anyone ever used an emulator called CVGS? I managed to play Chrono Cross on a Pentium 2 400MHz with no problems whatsoever, and 3DS is certainly much more powerful (MIPS wise) than that.

Not to sound like a dick, but if you own a Vita (with a TN-V ofc), why do you even want to play something like PSX and PSP games on a weaker console, from a completely different company which would also require a homebrew emulator, instead of using the "original" emulator of the company who made the previous product (phew, what a sentence).

I mean, I have 2 vitas for specifically that reason. The one is always up to date and the other one on 1.81 with urbanix. You have a full PSP on the vita which is able to play every PSP game and allthough PSX support isn't as great as on the PSP, it still works for most games.

It is just an honest question why you would like to play something like that on 3DS if you already own a Vita, which is 10x better for that or you could buy a nowadays ass cheap PSP which is even better (in the PSX departement)

And if I DON'T own a Vita?

Depends on the country. I bought my 3DS cheaper than people ask here for a used PSP. Plus, official emulator on PSP sucks, no DualShock support? Why? And try playing any games that require frequent usage of all 4 shoulder buttons when two of them are mapped to analog stick. And 3DS with CPP or New 3DS will be able to fully utilize all of it.

Spade was the OP and he has a vita... I answered him, not you.

But the statement with the PSP emulator I don't quite understand. You don't need 4 shoulder buttons when playing PSP games on the vita. The PSP only had 2 as well. I think you are mixing up things here as well

Edit: Was mixing things up again:P

I am sorry, I've completly mixed up the posts. I thought Spade was the OP because he answered in such a way:P

Nevermind then with the Vita thing.

I meant PSX games, since you said PSP is better than 3DS in PSX department.

Ah, alright, ok, I get what you mean with R2/L2. Yeah, sure, that's right.

What I actually meant was the compatibilty of the PSP and PSX games is better, than the compatibility on the Ps Vita with TN-V, never said anything on the compatibility on 3DS since you can't play PSX games there anyway.

I think PSX MIGHT be possible. N64 is less likely. Both of these will have some problems and it's likely a large amount of games will never run fullspeed.
You can forget about running PSP games.

PSX and N64 games are possible, PSX more possible than N64(both run on MIPS CPU, but the MIPS CPU of N64 are more powerful than PSX), anyway it need JIT to work fine and i don't know if this is possible on 3DS because the NX Bit(maybe i am mistaken, sorry), but without it, is possible write N64/PSX emulators to 3DS working near or fullspeed.

PSP: Hell no.
N64: Possibly. It may require a faster processor, but the 3DS's CPU has better architecture than most ARM11 devices(multi-core, L2 cache, etc).
PS1: Obviously that would run no problem (with possible exception of huge games).
