Well 3.18 firmware users have access to a pkg installer so people can use vita pkgs. But the problem is, they can't install pkgs because of drm. So people will just have to wait for hackers to crack the pkgs so they can install them.

yup 3.18 is the sweet spot :)

Complaints about the 10 game limit are completely justified for one simple reason - the limit is ARBITRARY. There's no technical reason for it, they've just done it to milk cash. The last thing we need is for all flash card makers from now on to do the same thing.

Therefore, we should boycott such nonsense.

I guess ill just leave my 3DS on 9.x for the time being...

I'm really between these in opinion.
On the one hand I can see their business reasoning - people *WILL* buy this card since its the only option currently on the market.
On the other looking at the additional features that a card like Gateway has to offer, even without the 10-game-limit the SKY3DS has its downsides.

I'm not a big online/multiplayer person myself, so gaining online functionality (for now?) isn't necessarily a selling point.
On the other hand, I don't know if eshop content like DLC can be made functional on Gateway.
For now, I'm holding off on making a decision untill the reviews are out and we hear from any of the other parties involved (Nintendo updating the 3DS, Gateway coming with news etc).

whist i firmly believe the limit is intentionally put in there i am not a software/hardware engineer (so people please don't quote me spouting info about how it *might* be unless you also have proof that its not yourself), but i see absolutely no real reason for the limit except desperate clutching at staws to excuse the limit as a technical limitation rather than accepting it for what it almost certainly is

but i agree, if people accept this limit it wouldn't be long before more and more flashcard companies take up the same bs scheme, i would suggest anyone looking to get a 5.x+ flashcard just wait a few month at least to show them that this kind of thing won't just be a big payday, if gateway or someone else come out with a unlimited model you would only be kicking yourself later anyway.....just be smart and play it cool ;)

At least they broke the barrier of the 4.5 firmware limit...which just means that either some teams are holding out or they were busy with other things in life to give little thought to those who were forced to update past 4.5. Its a breakthrough but yes the limit of 10 games is rediculous. I'm sure there has to be a way to erase those 10 games from memory.

Not sure if this is important, but it appears that they've uploaded a (different?) video on the main page of http://www.sky3ds.com/index.html. It looks like the same to me, but instead of it being Youtube video, it's a Youku video. I may be late with this but just pointing this out.

There's also pics & instructions on the Product page (http://www.sky3ds.com/product.html), but this may not be important either since the main question we're all wondering is regarding the 10 game limit

Im guessing that the 10 game limit is software based. If they managed to remove the limit for the "10" games limit and add firmware spoofing or update the card to work with future updates I would buy this in an instant! But even now its worth the
price since you actually pay $10 for a game.

i thought the actual review cards provided by sky3ds didn't contain this 10 games limit (red it somewhere on gbatemp).

yeah i saw that too, it may have just been speculation though , or maybe there are 2 classes of reviewer that are getting different versions of the card or software?

Curious to see what happens when Nintendo releases a new firmware update in the future.

Two questions I hope get answered in the near future:
1) How does card work on 9.X firmware (I know many people have said it is just cloning a real 3DS game and it works that way)
2) How is the 10 game limit implemented and how can it be stopped

A woman with no arms and no legs was sitting on a beach. A man comes along and the woman says, "I've never been hugged before." So the man feels bad and hugs her. She says "Well i've also never been kissed before." So he gives her a kiss on the cheek. She says "Well I've also never been fucked before." So the man picks her up, and throws her in the ocean and says "Now you're fucked."

anyways, we need to re-normalize physical media

Agreed, that why I try to buy all my games on disc, Xbox anyways. Switch games (which I pirate tbh) don't matter much, I stay offline 24/7 anyways.

@BakerMan - you can still "own" digital media, arguably easier and better than physical since you can make copies and backups, as much as you like.

    The issue is DRM
  • cearp @ cearp:
You can buy drm free games / music / ebooks, and if you keep backups of your data (like documents and family photos etc), then you shouldn't lose the game. but with a disk, your toddler could put it in the toaster and there goes your $60

    :rofl2:
  • cearp @ cearp:
still, I agree physical media is nice to have. just pointing out the issue is drm
  • rqkaiju2 @ rqkaiju2:
i like physical media because it actually feels like you own it. thats why i plan on burning music to cds
  • cearp @ cearp:
It's nice to not have to have a lot of physical things though, saves space

@rqkaiju2, Physical media is a great source for archiving your data, none of that cloud storage shiz.
