..or do they really plan to continue with this Lords of Shadow crap?

I loved the old Metroidvanias for the Nintendo DS. Does anybody know about the plans for the new Castlevania games? Maybe there are plans for a new Metroidvania?

+1 on the hope so.

LoS wasn't very good at all.

Did you play Batman Origins Blackgate? It was sort of Metroidvania style and made by guys who made Metroid Prime.

It was pretty good (but short) imo

You might want to head over to something that has a bit more weight in the indie market, a Vita will do.
Axiom Verge looks dope.

The up and coming famous Guacamelee

Muramasa, but only lightly because of backtracking.

and my favorite, Knytt Underground

I know, I know these are all for the Vita, and this is in the 3DS section. I just wanted to let you know these games are going strong in the indie scene.

I wonder if the "New" 3DS' extra cpu and RAM will have any effect on indie devs porting stuff?

Especially if Nintendo can finally get Unity working on it.

I would kill for Dustforce on 3DS.

Thats a good question, aside from leaving a bitter taste in early adopters' mouths.

The problem is that nintendo has almost always opted for lower spec components for their systems, save the SNES. Its hard to say what will be possible just yet. But I really think the 3DS could take off if it got the proper indie support, as long as games weren't too heavy on the requirements. Imagine 3D FEZ.

There's two upcoming metroidvanias you should look out for.
Firstly there's the procedurally-generated-dungeons game called Chasm: http://www.chasmgame.com/
Then there's the visually gorgeous pixel orgasm called Heart Forth, Alicia: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/alonsomartin/heart-forth-alicia

hentai metroidvania recommendation inside this spoiler:
Then incase you missed it, there's a hentai-ish metroidvania called Kurovadis. It's a pretty hard game and the little I tried was fun oldskool metroid-type gameplay.

As for actual Metroid or Castlevanias, there is none announced yet. I don't really know what's going on over at Konami, but right now Metal Gear is their main focus. Igarashi who's been the main force behind Metroidvanias has left Konami quite recently and formed his own studios. So don't expect many more Castlevanias.
I don't know about Nintendo but they don't seem too fond to make any new sidescrolling Metroids.

You best bet is to hope for some GBA eShop releases or indies, I dont really see too many mainstream metroidvanias anymore.
