Hello! I don't think i've ever seen anybody mention such a thing on this forum, so forgive me if this is a repeat question; Is there a way to create homebrew applications/games that utilize StreetPass? By that, I don't mean something like NetPass where it's a simulator, but a new game that utilizes the feature as a part of it's gameplay loop. Forgive me if this is a stupid question, I'm not super knowledgable about the 3DS hardware in terms of features like that, but I've really been hankering to use it because I find the wireless communication so cool; Would love to make a game that would work good for College campuses and captures a similar magic to the StreetPass Plaza. Thank you for your time.

Well, if Netpass can do it, and Netpass is homebrew, what makes you think other homebrew wouldn't also be able to use Streetpass?

As the 3DS is quite dead at this point, that is hardly practical.

I expect it ought to be possible to do something similar with Bluetooth on smartphones (there was a COVID tracking app that worked that way), but someone's surely tried that at some point by now.

I mainly asked because I suppose I thought of it mostly as a different task, NetPass distributing the data rather then making it, though I do suppose if they can so freely alter said data then it must be possible to insert your own...

I know it's impractical, but something niche is my goal. At least on my campus niche hardware is kindof popular, particularly in the gaming club; I actually get streetpasses most time I'm on campus w/ my 3DS, which is why I used the example haha ^^ I know it would be infinitely easier and probably more functional to develop a mobile phone game, but I like the vibe and form factor of the 3DS, and would really like to make it ON the console rather then just imitating it, and even if worse comes to worse and I can't get people to try the StreetPass irl... well, NetPass could come in clutch, I'd imagine!
Yes, absolutely. In the smdh file is a field for the title id used for cec
Thank you for the very straight forward answer! For some reason I didn't think my little ol' post would reach an actual NetPass/CECTool dev haha (love the apps btw, hats off to you!) ... Just curious, is there any good documentation for understanding the CEC system? I'm not uncomfortable with the idea of writing my own implementation / doing my own research, but if I could save myself a headache, that would be great, online seems to be kindof a mess of info from 2017...

Soru has not seen any documentation for the game APIs, that is registering themself with CEC and reading their own data. Sorry for that :/

The existing documentation lies on 3dbrew: https://www.3dbrew.org/wiki/StreetPass and https://www.3dbrew.org/wiki/CECD_Services

Ah, that reeks. Well, thank you for the answer, I really appreciate your help. I suppose if I were to move forward then I'd have to buckle down and learn how to reverse engineer it, haha (or wait for someone else to figure it out)...
