Which do you prefer for place names?!

  • Stick with Japanese names for all names.

  • Use localized names (from Dawn/Dusk) for old names, and Japanese for new names.

The question is whether or not this will be finished before there is a remake or localized versions.
If the game does somehow miraculously get localised/remade then go ahead and purchase the real deal. Until then, if you have nothing nice to say, don't bother saying anything at all. The team is not in any way or form obligated to get the project done "before there is a remake or localized version".

I apologize for sounding rude and/or snarky, but i was making comment in regards to how things have been moving lately. It was not a hurry and finish remark. Sometimes remakes happen before fan translations are finished, for example Kingdom Hearts Final Mix has a translation project but the game was 'remade' before the project was finished. In this day and age these things are likely.

In that case, I apologise for the misunderstanding as well. I've seen far too many people who pop in to act like jerks over the years and I assumed you were like those. So water under the bridge? ;)

Hello there folks, I've registered myself into this forum to encourage this translation and all the people who are making this possible. As a huge fan of Digimon, specially DS games, I can't wait to see this translation finished! Unafortunately I don't now japanese so I can't help with the translation process but, If you guys need some designer/graphic artist count on me. Keep it up!

I've posted on this thread a few times before and was just checking in after a few months to see how things were going. As I was reading through everything I've missed (about 8-10 pages) I kept noticing people getting sarcastic or pretty angry replies to questions about releasing a patch or asking about the progress. I always try to read the thread to see if any questions I have may have already been answered, so I was wondering why those comments are not just deleted and ignored by the moderators. I know this is not my board, but I see that you tell people to go and look through the other post when they ask questions about certain things, and I thought that maybe if we got rid of repeat and asinine questions and avoided filling the board with responses to those it would be much easier to find the important posts. It could have probably cut down my reading a page or two and would likely be beneficial to others in the future.

I suppose it's because while the posts are annoying to most of us, it doesn't technically break any rules so to speak. At least that's what I believe is the reason.

yugix himself replied on this thread in the previous page (which is slightly over two weeks ago) so I'd say that's more than a "could be" :\

I feel the same way as you.. I have seen following this thread since Yugix created it as an anonymous. I check in twice in a few months to check the progress. I am very happy that it is still on-going because for me, it is the waiting part that is exciting. I do not thoroughly read every post but I feel sad when some people tend to be sarcastic or scolding the new guys asking for certain info. These people pretend that they are the 'voice' of Yugix, treating people like the way they will not do in the real world. If you are agitated with those question, just ignore it, not typing any hurtful words will not kill you, i promise. They dont realise that by doing this, they are driving away the fans away bit by bit. Yugix passionately translated this game to share with everyone, but some people just keep using this terrible attitude and driving Yugix's fan away. By the way Yugix and his translators, thanks for translating this game, I will follow your work in a few months time. Keep up the good work! :)

People don't do it to be rude, they do it because it's annoying and pointless.
It's not like there isn't a front page clearly mentioning this stuff:

As for the driving away the fans bit by bit, that's debatable. If people want to play the game, in english, all they have to do is wait.
You're only looking at it from your point of view, you need to look at it from the point of view of those working on it. Constant questions and pressure like this will only annoy them and it might drive them to rage quit a project. It has happened before with some translation groups, it wouldn't be the first, nor last time it happens.

Oh I love being indirected.

I don't pretend to be anyone, I answer questions and dish out information from time to time since i'm the member of this team that lurks gbatemp most frequently and I don't mind being a spokesperson.
When I answer questions sarcastically or in a patronizing matter its because the question itself is usually quite ignorant. People will say thing like "I have been closely following the thread for ages" but still contradict themselves by not knowing our policies and progress. People will continuously ask questions that are answerable on the first page of the thread and i'm really bored of periodically having to explain to people that we wont be giving out an incomplete patch.
When someone asks a legit question i'm usually around to provide a legit answer and will continue to be throughout the course of the project. If me or anyone else happen to be driving you away from this thread that's your problem. I'm not being offensive or hostile, no one else is either. Also don't discredit the work of everyone involved in this project, Yugix is the leader but he's not working on this alone, its a passionate effort from a load of people not just a bunch of guys "scaring off yugix's fans".
So thank you for your support of the project, but by making a post like this you're just adding more fuel to a fire i've been trying to put down for a while. Be careful you don't "drive away Yugix's team"

Thank you all for your , but I have to point something to all people reading and following this thread.
This translation is "team's" or "contributors' ", whatever you like to call.
I'm not checking the forum everyday due to my work and family life. I try to do it but obviously I can't.
So, I have given Black-Ice the authority (or permission) to reply and control this thread.
And to tell you, sometimes he replies with answers which I will answer with more rage than him.

Well I am bit curious about what response I will recieve for my first post and I logged in. :x Well seems like my points are slightly off track, I was initially referring to those hardcore supporters who are sarcastic to other fellow supporters. (They are annoying bec they are just sarcastic without a gd reason. But little did i know that one of them is the translator lol. Of course that the translator has the right to say bec he is the one doing the job.) It is amazing how one point is changed to another one lol. I guess my post is a little misunderstood, my apologies. :)

And to Yugix, yes you can give him whatever power he needs, I don't mind, thats a gd thing, bec I dont even have the power to play digimon lol. My boyfriend thinks that it is a kiddy game for children or geeks. ;_; Mentioned to him once about the digimon anime is coming back in 2015 and he look at me with a pair of awkward eyes and a twitching mouth. But I do love digimon, maybe he thinks that a 24 yo young lady is not allowed to play digimon and only phone games. :(

Btw resume to the topic, hope it clarifies the matter, well back to my holiday with honey in sg, its midnight here haha. I will follow back in a couple of months time, but just the first page haha. Peace! :)

Hey guys, kudos to all of you for tackling the task of translating this game. As far as translating the story and dialogue goes, all I can say is to just keep chipping away at it, one bit at a time. I like what you guys have done so far, so keep up the good work!

All right, I'll pipe up.

Yugix asked me a little while ago in the Blood of Bahamut thread to jump in and help with this, and this past week I have made a bunch of progress on the translation front.

Please note that I am not a huge Digimon fan and proofreaders/testers will need to go through and fix things up if there is a specific way things are said in the context of the game.

There was a 900 or so row file related to training and although I got through that all, it seems like it is the same 150 or so lines redone in different speech styles (different Digimon speech styles I presume) so I will have to fix up a bit of that anyway.

For the huge MESPAK003 file, there are still about 2000 or so rows that need to be done. It's not impossible or really hard content-wise (barring the Digimon lexicon) but it will take a while just because of the sheer amount of text (with no repeats left as far as I can see...yet)

One big issue that has slowed me down is consistency. (With all due respect to all that have helped) I realize this is a trade off for having more people work on it to get it done faster, though. There were some blatantly incorrect translations and I've been fixing them as best I can (as I see them) albeit *not* being a Digimon expert, but again, when this thing is ready for Alpha testing the proofreaders and testers will need to go through all this with a fine tooth comb.

Eh, it is still easier work than that Adventure game in RGC2, though, so all is good.

Oh wow, rare to see a translation project actually going to the conclusion after that much time! Kudos to you guys! :D

To be honest I only heard about this one half an hour ago, so I gotta ask, what is to be expected from this game? I'm pretty much a big fan of Dawn / Dusk, so, is it a "Digimon World Dawn / Dusk 2"? Is it better in comparison? Are there any wi-fi exclusives that will be forever missed (because of the old DS wi-fi shoutdown)? If yes, will there be a workaround to get them?

/me wonders what he got himself into.

In any case I'll keep plugging away at it. There is a lot to get through, and filling in the blanks as well as fixing up the previous text will take a while. (And there will probably be more to fix after testing starts) I'll have some time tomorrow as well but Wednesday and Thursday I should have quite a bit of time to work on this.

My schedule is going to be a bit unpredictable come this weekend but next week I should have a fair bit more time to look at this, unless I have some client requests, that is. (Running my own business and all that sometimes takes a lot out of me)

Very good to hear that translation progress is being made again.

I've been a little out of the loop. Have the localizers decided whether they're going to alter names (of characters, places, attacks, etc.), or whether they're going to keep honorifics?
