As stated previously in the title, does anyone happen to know how he did. I see the common things of hooking it up to a SD card adapter(full sized) but I noticed what seems like a micro/mini usb slot on his. and that looks snazzy to me. Since I've yet to get a flash card or similar, I'd like to have a nand backup in case anything goes wrong at all, even the homebrew could cause issues and I'd like to have such a hardware mod made. Admittedly I'm _not_ going to be backing up/restoring as much as him at all.

I seriously doubt I'll ever really be restoring unless something goes wrong but I'd much rather have a easy way to get at it.

Would it kill you to search? This has been covered in detail across a few large topics.

No need to bring an attitude. Best course of action in this case is to point them in the right direction and leave them to their own undoing.

If you have a 3DS XL, read this thread

If you have an OG 3DS, read this one

For future reference, use the search function of the website before asking questions that have been answered repeatedly. The natives tend to get upset at those who can't handle such a simple task.

Unfortunately, this is the case. Every site has these people. I consider myself at least somewhat native-y at this point. But I'm on the kinder side. I recommend searching first, yes. Sorry for the rude children here.

I searched on the googles and the like, and I didn't see _any_ threads/posts about how to do such a hardware mod. i have seen things that let you hook it up to a sd card adapter but not the whole shebang.

And once again clearly the person who was so rude didn't evne read what I said! So once again way to bee a rude twat.

I want the whole thing, I wanted a usb port that I could plug into and then do quick restores, not the simple one that I've seen posted elsewhere. So once again the post is not done and no one's said _anything_ that actually answers my question. WAy to go for not reading the whole damned question! yay good for you, here's a sticker for being someone who doesn't even read the full post before thinking they know it all!

Edit and here's a picture as to what I was talking about. I want that, not the simple mod I've seen on the wiki. I want a easy access port so I don't have to take it apart to get at it.

i was the one that did the mod for smealum....its pretty simple, the guides that are available would be easily adapted to fit any sort of port/connector with at least 4 pins

-snip-

There's really nothing to it. It's the exact same mod; absolutely nothing is different electrically. The only difference is, we add a connector.

It's just a matter of finding a suitable 4-pin connector (the image you posted appears to have used a microUSB; I used a Deans 4R), making a cutout in your 3DS shell (with a dremel or other tool), and figuring out a way to secure the connector (I used a hot glue gun). You then connect the other side of the connector to your SD adapter cable.

The USB port he has on his is not actually USB-compatible; you can't just plug a USB cable into it and hook it directly to your PC's USB port. It just uses the connector since it's a simple common 4-pin connector. It still has to use an SD card adapter at the other end.

Here's mine: http://gbatemp.net/threads/nand-flash-dump-3ds.353263/page-4#post-5063911

the most complex mods/repairs that I've had to doin the past was just replacing some capacitors, so I'm much more for the easiest guide possible. And I saw that it's not regular USB and I have plenty of adapters, hell I still have my micro-sd->miniSD->SD adapters. Why? I don't know, I guess I thought I'd need to use a miniSD card sometime in the future and kept it my "drawer of random parts".

it involved soldering but I've only gto a regular 3ds I guess i should've believed people when they were talking about being able to use a flash cart. As I can now do what I did with my dstwo backup all of my games and eventually only have to travel with a single card rather than dozens.

well part of it was to try to have that whole usb port thing or well honestly any port so I can easily connect it. I'll probably end up waiting a bit until I have a full nand backup from a card so I could easily restore if it anything goes wrong.

if you are able to solder yourself, there no real reason to have it done unless you have plans to update/downgrade regularly like i imagine smealum has done during his testing of SSSpwn, basically the only time i had mine hooked up was when i was doing the brick/unbrick testing with bikifft, but if i ever did accidentally update i know i could solder the wires and downgrade myself within 20 minutes anyway, so personally i don't even have the permanent mod installed

I personally did it to mine because I accidentally updated my sysnand instead of emunand. After I did it, though, I used it to get NAND dumps of a number of different versions (via game cards) just for kicks. It also let me update to 7.1 (using a physical Yoshi cartridge) after 8.x was released, since I could update sysnand, dump it, then apply that dump to emunand (and revert sysnand back to 4.5).
