You don't need the merging thing, you can just patch either of the two isos and it'll work.
Also, it's probably so huge because it includes the video files (which is pretty much the reason why the game was split in two isos normally, because they're too large)

From someone who's been varying degrees of disappointed with Recent Final Fantasy titles... is this worth playing? Or would this be another entry in the "not even worth pirating" list?

It's always great to see projects like these actually completed. Too often they they're stuck in limbo. It's downloading now! I hope it runs on my PS3. (:

I played the demo awhile back (entirely in Japanese), and it definitely got me interested in the title. It's different, but in a good way. I'd check out some gameplay videos, and if it looks interesting to you, give it a shot. Personally, for me, this is half the reason I'm buying myself a second PSP after selling off my first a couple years back.
And Square pwns you only a few days later. sad.
Not really. This is still the only portable version translation available, and Square has voiced no plans to bring the FF Type-0 HD version to the Vita, despite the fact that it was Vita fans that wanted it more than anybody else, transitioning from trying to get it over on the PSP back when it initially released. Of course, the Vita thing might change with the uproar surrounding the decision to not bring the game to Vita, but with how game companies operate, I wouldn't bet on them changing their mind.

I wouldn't trust Square Enix with their reaction to fan uproar. Just look at the FFVII PS3 demo. Since then they've remade several games, and what do they do for FFVII? Give us a crappy PC port with stupid DRM.
