1. Could I backup and restore gamesaves, allowing for cheating possibilities such as cloning on Pokemon X/Y?

2. Can I make custom codes?

3. Could this be stopped by 3DS firmware? Will I ever have to worry when updating my system?

Thats all I wanna know.

No, I'm tagging him in this thread so he can be notified of this thread and come and give his two cents. We refer to him as "Powersaves Dude" around here.

2, not afaik, I'm pretty you you select you cheats, your save gets transferred to datel to decrypt and add the cheats you selected and is then re-encrypted and sent back to you, so at no point do you have access to the decrypted save, it's all done in datel HQ :P
3 I don't think it can be blocked, if datel has a way to dump the encryption keys, I assume that even if Nintendo does change them again datel could just get the new one, for all currently released games it's a definate no, but for future games it's a probably not but no guarentee

Does this mean when you backup your gamesave its done on a cloud like storage and you cant access it on your own PC?

Even if I cant make any custom codes can I access my gamesave and change the hex values around on a hex program for cheats not available? I Just wanna know how far I can take this.

no the save file is on your computer, but its still encrypted afaik, i dont own one of these but from a video file i seen the save is transferred to datel to apply cheats which probably means they are still encrypted until they are sent to datel

The only reason that urks me is that the network could be down for an unknown amount of time, and whos to say how long they will continue running/supporting it? Sounds like an odd way to apply cheats but alright.

My guess as to why they would do it this was is so their method of decrypting isnt leaked to Nintendo or other possible companies that would steal their work. Again, just a guess.

probably to keep getting sales, if the cheap Chinese save dongle readers creators had access to the datel code they would hack it within a few hours to get the 6.x+ encryption keys and sell it at a fraction of the price....they should of just put brick code in instead if you ask me

nah but there is a point...its unlikely but if nintendo decided to try suing datel for signing saves, datel would have to stop offering the service and as the signing is done online there would be no other method....still its all unlikely, but if datel ever decides to drop the service they would probably just make an offline version for people to use, but that would no doubt be once the 3ds has finished being supported by nintendo

Sounds familiar. But yeah I just ask cause I dont wanna buy this only for support to last from a couple of months to a year. I wanna at least use it to the end of the 3DS's life if possible, by then there should be some homebrew to allow cheating.
