Nintendo Renews Trademark for Metroid Prime

Nintendo has registered and renewed the trademark for the awesome Metroid Prime series. The status date for the trademark was renewed and registered on August 13th, 2013. It’s common practise for companies to renew their trademarks, but it would come as a welcome surprise to many if Retro Studios were planning to develop another game in the Metroid Prime series for the latest Nintendo home console, Wii U. And I'm sure that Samus Pin that Reggie was wearing at the VGX was to meant something.

I can see the gamepad having some good uses as the Visor in a metroid game. What about a game that's 3rd person on the TV and first person on the gamepad?

I actually really liked how on VGX (no matter how shitty it was), Reggie made a point to wear a Metroid pin while showing off a Retro Studios game. This is a pretty intentional and strategic move--if it was just to show off what the studio has been capable of, like a good gesture, they would have probably preferred a DK pin or something.

Now I'm kind of wondering whether there's potential for a FPS remake of the first two games... :o

^^This. And if they were to make another Paper Mario game, I'd be stoked. If they do make another Metroid game, I hope it's not like Other M. Besides, why would they make it bad? They've already had one bad game; they realize this. (I'm looking at you, Other M ) Plus they're still trying to sell copies of the Wii U, obviously. Here'd be a great opportunity to do that, obviously. And I wonder: if they do this, then might they release another Prince of Persia game?

Eh, just because Nintendo is maintaining a trademark doesn't mean they have any intention to use it. Honestly, it'd only be surprising if they didn't renew the trademark.

Anyway yeah this is standard business move rather than anything special (I am not sure what the going rate is for such things but it is not that much for a company of Nintendo's size), hence it now sits in general gaming discussion.

Renewing a trademark means little unfortunately but would be nice to see the prime series continuing
