Is it possible to have the IPB stuff update as soon as someone posts, likes something, quotes you, etc?
Im just curios thats all, and i believe there was talk of a facebook-esk chat system?

I know that both of these are easily remediable, for the first just refresh the page, and for the second, use IRC. I was just curious thats all.

Oh boy, I thought it was instant. I guess I'm slow, which works for the best.

Off-topic - What's with the avatar?? So many people using that one.

Its close, or maybe it is for some people. When im using the temp, i have to refresh my page to get notifications to show up.
Sometimes when i am posting and shiz, the page is nice enough to tell me there is 1 new reply or something, but most of the time I end up getting ninja'd anyways cause it doenst tell me or doesnt update till i post.

For the record a middle click on the refresh button (back button if you are using a full editor) in most sensible browsers will spawn a tab with the same URL. Also being ninja'd is a thing that happens often in the forums, the main trick is to be comprehensive enough or provide some insight/a different wording so it does not matter.

As for instant feedback, I am not the one that makes such a call or even one that touches the code but that would probably go back into the ajax world and slam the server with even more database requests (and given Costello and tj_cool already spend serious amounts of time optimising those as it is) all for no real gain that would be less than ideal.

Would be nice; some places will have automatic updates, and a number of new notifications can appear in the title bar.

It would save refreshing manually; not that that takes very long.

It seems like sometimes my little UserCP thing tries to reload or something, but i never get new notifications unless i update the page.

A "notificationist's" wet dream would be a separate system like a phone app or a program that sits on your taskbar or something. A fully customizable system that keeps track of all your likes and what kind of notifications you get whether it's a reply, like or personal message.

Edit: Oh wait there is an app... is it any good?
