First group consists of 3 packs.

Pack 1: Go! Go! Gold Mario Pack. 3 courses, up to 30k coins.
2: Challenge the Record Pack A. Top WW scores on HP.
Pack 3: Survival Panic Pack, for experts only. DLC packs are not random, but fixed 3 stages each.

DLC accessible from the Shop button on the bottom of the Coin Rush mode menu. Won't appear until SpotPass is read.
DLC course designs are based in part on Club Nintendo survey responses. Packs to be released in JP 10/2, 200 yen each.
The SpotPass message to activate the Shop button will arrive by mid-day on 10/2. Next sets to be released at the end of Oct. and the end of Nov.
Further DLC information will be posted on the website. That's it!

They actually look pretty good, especially for $2. Especially that hard pack!

posted in your last thread about it but the 3 packs do look appealing. Wonder if Nintendo could ever be tempted to make a "classic" pack consisting of a pack of "old" super mario bros games

How many levels are there in a pack?

EDIT: 3.

3 levels for $2? Guess its worth for the more challenging levels.

I'm looking forward to these that's for sure.

I think Nintendo of America's Direct presentation later today will probably be covering these DLC packs. I hope Europe gets them next week too.
All I know for certain is that next week, the EU eShop will be getting Mole Mania.

Looks like a pretty decent start for their DLC. Nothing too essential, but it seems to be pretty reasonably priced, and sometimes, that's all you can ask for.

Definitely not the first time new content was developed for a mario game after its release. There was mario advance 4 on the GBA that got bonus levels with extra data on ereader cards, and that worked pretty well. The difference is that few people had an ereader and even fewer had all the cards for it. Since it's not in the game already, I'm perfectly fine with nintendo going for this.

It's a shame the e-reader concept wasn't up to snuff really.

Were the e-reader cards actual new content or did they just provide access to info in the ROM image?
Theoretically could you experiment with e-reader data to create anything you liked in Mario Advance 4?
There was for example, the feather cape power-up in Mario Advance 4, only accessible through the e-reader. I don't know if it was possible to use it using Action Replay codes or other cheat devices.

Pity the e-reader didn't really get insanely popular. Always liked it.

Never really figured out how to emulate and manipulate the info though. Even then, there are very few of em out there on the interwebz. :(

I don't think so. All of the ereader data was saved in the save file. None of the mechanics actually came from the ROM.
In any case, this is very useful for anyone pursuing the ereader card packs from SMB3/SMA4 that were never released outside of Japan: http://www.caitsith2.com/ereader/sma4.htm

And on-topic: It's sad that the DLC looks better than any of the levels in the regular game. It actually looks fun to collect coins now. (Finally, a break from the 30,000 coin trick.)

@AncientBoi, Yeah, believe you can do PSP games as well. But a Pi5 is much powerful in comparison.

Not sure about other models of Pi4 but the Pi 4 B with 8GBs OCed to 2Ghz handles PSP really great except like 1 game I found and it is playable it just looks bad lol Motor Storm Arctic something or other.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Other games I can have turned up to like 2X and all kinds of enhancements, Motorstorm hmmm nope 1X and no enhancements lol

I will admit that one does seem more interesting than the usual Ambernic ones, and I already liked those.

    I dread the price point.

This looks like one of their premium models, so... $150 :glare:

  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
    To me that seems reasonable.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
I mean since basically all the games are errmmm free lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean yeah sure but the specs are the same as a $50 model, it's just those pesky "quality of life" things driving up the price, like an actually working speaker, or buttons that don't melt, and stuff like that.

I think all in my Pi 4 was well north of 200 bucks 150ish for the Pi 4 the case the fancy cooler, then like 70 for the 500GB MicroSD then like 70 for the Xbox controller. But honestly it's a nice set up I really enjoy and to me was worth every penny. (even bought more controllers for 2 or 4 player games.) hmmm have never played any 2 player games yet :(
  • Veho @ Veho:
Yeah that's what I hate about the RPi, it's supposedly $30 or something but it takes an additional $200 of accessories to actually turn it into a working something.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
yes that's the expensive part lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I mean sure it's flexible and stuff but so is uremum but it's fiddly.
  • Psionic Roshambo @ Psionic Roshambo:
Yeah a lot of it I consider a hobby, using Batocera I am constantly adjusting the collection adding and removing stuff, scraping the artwork. Haven't even started on some music for the theme... Also way down the road I am considering attempting to do a WiiFlow knock off lol
  • Veho @ Veho:
I want everything served on a plate plz ktnx, "work" is too much work for me.
  • Veho @ Veho:
Hmm, with that in mind, maybe a complete out-the-box solution with all the games collected, pacthed and optimized for me would be worth $150

Yeah it's all choice and that's a good thing :)
