I have a funny story to tell. So on sunday I see the big news that DIOS MIOS has been released. I fire up my wii, turn on wiiXplorer and get FTP running. Back on PC, I download DIOS MIOS v2 wad, updates for USB Loader GX, and (I thought) wiiflow. I send the wad to my wad folder on my sd card and all the apps to their appropriate places. Turn off the wii, remove my HDD and start loading games on it. The first game I try loads up just fine, and I think "great, it works". Load up other games, and I notice they aren't showing up in wiiflow at all, and only in USB Loader GX. Turns out, both were still set to point to SD card. So I fix that, move data around to make sure everything is on the HDD. Now only USB Loader GX is seeing the games on the HDD, but every time I launch I get black screen. No joy. No splash. Nothing. So I'm thinking my HDD is incompatible, but I'm going to try a few more steps to see.

First thing I do is move everything off the HDD and reformat with 32k clusters. I had verified previously that it was already formatted this way, but I wanted to be absolutely sure. Formatted everything, moved everything back over, still no joy. So then I think "maybe I need to overwrite dml (which I had) with the original mios v10 first". So I go to DOP-ios thinking I can get miosv10 there (but I can't). So having no luck then, I say "what the heck, I'll try reinstalling DIOS MIOS v2 over again". I get into Wad Manager, and the music starts up, and I realize that I hadn't ever installed the wad IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Installed DIOS MIOS. Plugged in HDD. Fired up mario sunshine, and I got a black screen. I curse, switch back to baseball, and do more thinking. After we lose the baseball game, I switch back to wii to find that mario sunshine had indeed booted just fine. Tested my other 3 games, they all booted fine, with a splash screen. Put all my games on there, have joy finally.

Moral of the story: if you're having trouble getting DIOS MIOS working, the first thing you should do is install DIOS MIOS.

I'm a moron. :wtf:

I hope DM gets better compatibility in the future, several of my favorite GC games are unplayable on it, haha. Oh well, guess I'll stick to using my modified GC; although, I may not be able to load from an HDD, it gets the job done. Honestly though, anyone who can build a basic pcb board can make their own homemade xenogc modchip.. The source and the schematics is released for that particular modchip, and if all you're interested in is backups and homebrew, it gets the job done.

Just started testing some games using the USB version, I can happily say that it works perfectly so-far.

Sonic Heroes PAL works perfectly fine, I'll add some more entries once I test the games I'm most interested in.

yup....and you could have just altered the main gamecube path in the path option of usb loader gx. Again right from usblgx's gui.
Usbl gx has some issues with some games running in prog.scan, cfg loader does'nt have any problems ( sunshine having green bar on bottom etc..rl3 rebel strike green screen...) so try different loaders if you have problems.

my experience with DIOS MIOS so far: don't leave it on a pause screen for too long. it may error if doing so.
also, the pokemon games have trouble for me, but I can hold out for a bit longer.

That's not Dios Mios - that's your HDD.

If the HDD is not used, after a pre-set period of time it will enter Sleep Mode, thus Dios Mios will think it's disabled.

I wonder why it only happens with DIOS MIOS then, I can leave wii games on for like forever.
wonder if crediar could implement a thing to make the HDD be used for no reason once every few minutes.

It also could be that you use the no disc patch, that might result in the same error. About wii games, most wii games actually keep the hdd alive, reading some bg music or stuff like that.

not using NoDisc patches, I have a GC Disc in drive.
hmm, that sounds about right... though I just noticed my partition wasn't set as "active" as instructed. maybe that's causing issues as well. set to active now.

Just tried out Skies of Arcadia (NTSC-U). using DM2.0+ on USB Loader GX and it prompted me to copy the game over to a freakin' SD card. Why? I don't know. Other games don't prompt me, but this one does.

Do you mean the box that comes up with 4 options? Does that for all of my games that are in USB. Cyan just added a quick patch to allow you to run from USB, do you still have your SD card in? The others may not bring up the menu as they are already on SD.

What? Twilight Princess never prompts me to do that, but Skies of Arcadia does....wtf? Is there no way to bypass the annoying prompt?

What kind of speed differences are people seeing between USB devices and SD cards? I'd imagine random access is better for smaller stuff and games while USB is better for games with large assets (whatever they may be... ones like MGS perhaps).

Also, how do people reboot back to the Wii or their USB loader program when using DIOS MIOS?

Well if the game is on your sd card, or you have the 2 paths available for dml set right.
