HD remasters of the popular Wii rail shooters, Resident Evil: The Umbrella Chronicles and Resident Evil: The Darkside Chronicles are coming to the Playstation Network this June.

The two titles originally debuted on the Wii as "retellings" of the earlier Resident Evil games, but played as an on-rails light gun shooter. The Umbrella Chronicles shows events from Resident Evil Zero, Resident Evil, and Resident Evil 3: Nemesis, while The Darkside Chronicles focuses on Resident Evil 2 and Code Veronica.

The trailer (shown above) details the gameplay and shows off some of the new HD graphics.

Both games will be available individually and exclusively on the Playstation Network Store and support the Playstation Move, although it is optional. The ever-popular trophies will also be present. You'll be seeing them sometime this June.

DAMN YOU GUILD! I thought they re-made RE1, 2, 3 and CV in full HD, not re-released Umbrella+Darkside Chronicles. I got all excited for no reason!

Sly Cooper Collection, Jack and Daxter HD Collection, Metal Gear Solid HD collection, Ico/SotC HD Collection Resident Evil HD collection...
And we blamed Nintendo for rehashes. Is constant remakes of barely dated games some sort of Japanese thing?

Hey - it's Capcom. Their train of thought in this case:

1. So there's this new (old) thing caled PSMove...
2. We don't feel like programming new motion controlled games, that fad is SO over...
3. We have some motion controlled games on the Wii...
4. Let's make them HD!
5. Sweet, nothing better then the feeling of satisfaction after a job well done.

Well Capcom has done like... two HD rehashes (this one and Devil May Cry, right?) and their kinda notorious for rehashes anyway. Like Street Fighter IV? Then buy Super Street Fighter IV! Like Super Street Fighter IV? Then buy Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition!

The last rail shooter I played in an arcade was House of the Dead 2. Last rail shooter I played in general was probably Typing of the Dead.

Darkside Chronicles is pretty good, can't say I enjoyed Umbrella Chronicles as much. Seems worth it if you have a PS3/Move, otherwise I wouldn't bother or just get the Wii version.

And the sad thing is that the PS3 isn't even HD :<
HD is the stupidest of terms. It's as meaningful as "4G". HD in comparison to what? Because if you choose the Wii as the reference point then hell yeah, it's quite HD to me. :P

Its funny, most first party wii games actually look on par or better than a lot of PS3 an 360 games when output at a higher resolution with a little AA. If you have the PC for it I highly recommend running Some wii games on dolphin.

Some examples:

SMG2 1/2

It's true. Skyward Sword looks like a modern wonder of graphics when run on high in Dolphin. It's as if Nintendo games were designed for HD but just forced to run on less powerful hardware

Edit: Which is kind of satisfying for me, because I know they won't too dated when I go back to replay them far into the future.

Its amazing what a little color and an artistic style other than "realistic" can do.

the fact tht its PSN means it can be hacked. i dont think i will get it but its nice to see a classical HD remake. now time for ff7.
one of the big reasons for an emu is actually better graphics like ff12 looks much better on pc than ps2.

I don't think it's risky to say that the case would be the same for PS3 and 360 games that'd be emulated and "enhanced" on PC's 4 or 5 times as powerful.

What are you talking about? I said to just run them at a resolution similar to the 360 and PS3 with slight AA also like them.

These games were designed to run at a lower resolution, of course they'll look better at a higher one, especially with AA turned on. That doesn't change the fact that if you apply a similar treatment to a PS3 game, aka, improve its native resolution (accordingly by percentage values to make it an equal improvement) and apply a degree of AA if it needs it then it's going to look prettier.

He's not remarking with surprise that Wii games look better with AA and upscaling. PS3 games would look better in real 1080p and actual AA too. The surprise here is that Wii games, designed for barebones hardware running at low res, look amazing with a little upscaling. They could have skimped on texture and model detail, and we wouldn't be able to tell. But they didn't. Running on a proper system, Wii games would look just as good as modern ones.
