I suggest you (re)play the GBA versions, there is one GBA game that never made it to the Western countries, only Japanese. You can play it perfectly though with a translation patch, I've done it too.
Fire Emblem 6: Fuuin no Tsurugi (The Sealed Sword), Google it

Completed it about a year ago on my PSP, God I love me some Fire Emblem :) I'll play another Fire Emblem in 2012, for sure. I do hate hidden items though, they basically force me to use a guide. I FUCKING HATE not being able to promote enough characters.... Also I think the endgame parts could be better, you basically defeat the final boss and within 5 minutes you stop playing, all that work is gone.

Awesome. Good to see more Fire Emblem games coming to the West. I doubt it, but maybe there's some hope for F-Zero to return on the 3DS.

There's a translation patch for every single Fire Emblem right now, so don't just play FE6--play them all! Every one of them is super-fun :)

In the Fire Emblem trailer thingy, there's two chars fighting each other and one of the female leads crying, so I'm assuming it'll be the two protagonist fighting each other, seeing as each one is tied to a Dragon, I really hope they'd let you choose your path, as in, you being the dark dragon or the light dragon. *-*

Never played that one, added it to my To Do list :) I've tried the very first ones I think, on the NES (?) but I couldn't get into it. Too hard in difficulty (my fucking heal spell missed, can you believe that?) and the graphics are a bit too basic.

If you really liked that one, there are about... I wanna say six? full hacks of the game in which new weapons, characters, skills, and sometimes even maps and animations exist. Fully complete into the end of the game too!

Genealogy of Narga
Genealogy of Ayra
Genealogy of Neir
Genealogy of Tordo
FE4RM (remodeling) (known as the Binary hack to some)
FE4inflation
FE4TS

A lot of these hacks allow you to choose what promotion you want too, they've coded in branched promotions. It's really cool. Some of them even give you three choices instead of just two!

Genealogy of Fala (some of the new text isn't finished, but it's all in moonspeak anyways--gameplay is finished for the entire game :P)
Genealogy of Dain was being worked on, I don't know how far along it got.

Not to mention the hacks for the other games in the series. There's one for FE3 where your main character is Biraku (that red-head knight from Hardain's group), and there's a bunch of interesting full-game hacks in the later series. Some of which are actually in English too :)

EDIT:

The very first one is pretty bad actually. Kinda like how the original Final Fantasy compares to FFIV kinda bad. There's a remake of the original (and FE3) on the DS, it was released as Shadow Dragon in the U.S. FE2 is much more fun and less... horribly-old-rigid-8bit gameplay. It's pretty fluent :)
