What is the advantage of 4.1 over 4.3 now that LetterBomb is released?
Not much really. Just a few extra ways to unbrick a Wii and the ability to play region free backup discs with a modchip. It also won't brick a region changed Korean Wii (although it's unlikely that he has one). However, the OP asked for the optimal version. If you are going to install a new version of the System Menu, it might as well be 4.1.

@OP: Something I should have mentioned before, if you are on 4.2/4.3 already, don't bother downgrading. It's unlikely that anything would go wrong, but better safe than sorry.

You get the fun job of installing other potentially dangerous stuff to make sure games don't update you to 4.3.
I assume you are talking about Priiloader, which the OP would install anyway as part of the hacking process.

3-4 games on a disk? :wtf: how?
Gamecube games are smaller than Wii games, generally. You have to use a multi-iso game creator program...that and a lot of confusion with MIOS and Neogamma stuff. It took me a while to figure it out, but now most GC games work really well on my Wii.

I've got a launch day Wii, and I updated it to 4.2 - works fine with GCbackups. As long as you have some way of restoring the Trucha bug, I don't think there's any particular reason to stay away from 4.3. I personally haven't gone to 4.3 simply because there's no compelling reason to upgrade either.

Unless your a dev or someone who really plans on tinkering with the system, 4.3 > 4.1 simply because it's the most up to date and any adjustments or fixes between the SM wouldn't matter to you anyway.

I think thats reason enough to stay on 4.1.

Um...he'd need either priiloader or startpatch on 4.3 as well, so the games don't keep asking him to install the cIOS stubs.
