You need a wad manager.
Download one and place it on your SD:/apps/wad_manager/boot.dol

Then place the channel's .wad files on your SD:/Wad/ folder
Launch the wad manager from the homebrew channel, and select the file you want to install.

There are different wad managers, with different features (folder browsing, etc.).
I let you search them. just make a search on the forum (there's a search engine at the top-right of the site).

No, you don't need the app on your SD card !

There are two different installable channels:

- The full channel : the app is integrated and will be installed on the Wii.
- The forwarder channel : This one is only an application which redirect to the real program located on your SD card SD:/apps/usbloader_gx/boot.dol

The forwarder is useful to update the loader frequently and use beta version (just replace the boot.dol on the SD card).
The channel is for users who don't update often or don't use the SD card, everything is installed in the wii.

So, yes, just "normal install it like all wads" if you want to install the full channel (gameID: ULNR)

If you choose to install the Forwarder (gameID: UNEO), then don't forget to copy the boot.dol on your SD or USB.

I don't know if GX has one, but it should be noted that some apps also have "hybrid channels" which first look in a list of common locations for the app (just like a forwarder channel), but also has an integrated version of the app to fall back to.

For Gx download this & install the USBLoader_GX_V2_3_UNLR_Channel_AHBPROT.wad inside it & here for neogamma.

Also before you install them you better have priiloader or bootmii@boot2 as I had some bad experience with the gx channels causing semi bricks so better be safe than sorry .
